My son was in 2 separate serious car accidents, one on Sept. 10, 2001, and one on January 15th 2002. (Neither being his fault the second where he was hospitalized for 2 months), so I was indisposed for quite awhile, and had someone else pay my bills. As I was going through my American Express bill, I noticed 3 billings to NSS Magazine Subcriptions that I did not authorize, nor have I ever recieved these magazines. When I called the 800 number given to me by American Express, all I get is a recording, and no way to talk to a live customer service rep.

The charges are as follows:

September 19, 2001 for $35.00 for Fortune Magazine

September 26, 2001 for $57.00 for People Magazine

January 29, 2002 for $57.00 for people magazine

As you can see, the charges were posted right after both accidents. This could be a coincidence, but it's such a rip-off, that I am not sure.

apparently it is a telemarketing type of company (i do not know for sure). they respond saying that they have spoken to you and that you agree with the charge. if we are unable to contact you via phone, we rebill. make sure that you redispute and say that this charge is still unauthorized. you should get credit. if this still doesn't work, tell amex you never got any merchandise for this charge and do not want to be billed for it. they will not be able to provide proof of delivery (unless you did receive something) and you will get credit.

Call NSS at 1-800-799-9939 and insist that the charges be refunded to you. Also, report them to the FTC at www.ftc.gov. As a fellow victim, I'm urging everyone to do so...
