My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2003.  He has motor deficits and severe cognitive deficits as well as hallucinations, psychosis, dementia and delusions.  In June, 2015 he had a sudden acute change in mental status.  He didn't know who I was and he didn't know where he was.  He persisted in this state and I called an ambulance.  A sudden change in mental status constitutes a medical emergency, and my husband was taken to Forest Hills Hospital.  He had to undergo brain scans and other necessary evaluations for stroke, TIA, aneurysm, etc.  My husband was admitted to Forest Hills Hospital in a regular four-bed room, for the period of 14 days.

The hospital's questionable actions fall within these three categories:

1.  Husband held for admission period without hospital clarifying medical necessity;and

2.  Hospital failing to provide sufficient information to my insurance carrier, Cigna, which has denied our claim for coverage due to inadequate information regarding medical necessity; and

3.   Outrageously inflated billing in the sum of $95,936.83, including:

$263.00 for blood test

$195.00 for blood typing

$149.00 chest x-ray

$1,940.00 brain CT scan

$2602.00 thoracic CT scan

$483.00 EKG

$2127.00 emergency room visit

$5695.00 daily rate for hospital admission

$5695 for brain MRI

$309.00 Physical therapy evaluation

The blue book for hospital charges shows that these charges are excessive.

Brain CT Scan - $368.00

Thoracic CT Scan - $368.00

Brain MRI - $729.00

Emergency Room visit - $769.00

The problems generated by Forest Hills Hospital's conduct are exacerbated by Cigna's denial of the claim for coverage for this hospitalization.  My husband was transferred to Silvercrest Nursing Center for a period of a few seeks, which was covered by Cigna.  My understanding is that nursing home admissions will not be covered unless the nursing home patient is transferred from a hospital admission.

I need help negotiating down this inflated bill.
