This is a warning to all models, product demonstrators, tour managers, auto show specialists, event and tradeshow workers. NDI Group which is based in Knoxville, TN, advertises on Craig's list for people to work at auto trade shows throughout the U.S. They booked me for a two-day training and a contract to work a large auto show. They overbooked the show and sent more people to training then could work the show. Once I accepted and signed their contract, I turned other work down for the show and so did other product specialists that I work with on a regular basis. After we attended a two-day training, they called us and canceled our contract for the show. When challenged, they created false reasons for dismissal including a completely made up report in writing. They practice discriminatory profiling and do not pay the contracts for work and training. This company is extremely unprofessional and will cost you lost work and lost earnings.

NDI Group in Knoxville is horrible

Your are right Ashley, they are horrible to work for. They do not pay their employees what is promissed to them nor do they pay there contract workers what was agreed on. Every expense report I ever handed in was challenged and several expenses where never paid. Instead of the office personnel asking me why I expensed the items they would just deduct it from your check with out telling you. When you are hired on in Sept the tell you that this is a seasonal job that runs up until May, but they have been sooo busy the last few years that they will keep you busy during the summer. Well, that is a load of crap too. All season we where lead to believe that this is the busiest they have ever been and we will be working all summer and dont have to worry about a layoff. Then comes May and right at the beginning of a show we are told this will be our last show for the season. No notice what so ever!! Anyone looking to work in the Auto Show industry should STAY AWAY from NDI GROUP in KNoxville, TN. There are soo many other companies out there that take very good care of their employees including the company I now work for. In fact over the years there have been a total of 7 former NDI employees that now work for the company I work for now. That alone tells you something.

I agree with what both people have said. I worked with this company at the same time Jeff did & he is right about everything he said. The pay is horrible for the amount of hours you put and trust me they want you to work like a dog! In the beginning of the season they build this company up to be the greatest and so on. They bad mouth the other companies in this industry and say that "During the season the other companies will approach you and ask you to work for them", which they did, many times, but NDI Group told us all lies about those companies so we wouldnt jump ship. After working the first few shows I did in fact get approached by another company and ask me if I would be interested in working for them. I told them no, not after what I had heard about them. Thats when I found out that NDI had made up all the bad things they said. Jeff and I did a show together in Baltimore last season and the weather was horrbile. All the vehicles came in looking very bad. Both Jeff and I called the main office BEGGING them to up our labor budget because there was no way we would finish on time and do I quality job. They did give us a few more dollars to get a couple more people, but that didnt help!! Jeff let them know several times that we needed more help and things looked very bad at the show. Well, the long and short of it was once we both got back to the office, we got our asses chewed out and the company totally blamed the failure on us! We both recieved write ups. This was after several clients at the show called and told them that it wasnt mine or Jeff's fault the show was a failure!!!! NDI didnt care though, they just wanted to blame anyone other than themselves. Fact is NDI didnt supply us with the proper tools to complete the job on time and to the clients satisfactory!!! When Jeff and I where hired on we had a total of 7 people in our training group. Guess how many people came back the next year???????? Only 2!!!!! Thats sad! Over the years I have learned that 8 people have left NDI Group to work for Cosmetic Car Care (A company that has been around for 25+ years, NDI Group as been around for 8 years) and everyone of them are glad they Left NDI for Cosmetic. The really sad part is NDI still bad mouths these people for leaving to better themselves. I wish I would have made the move as well, but I desided to change careers and stay home with my wife and child. Anyone thinking of getting into this business needs to do their resreach and STAY AWAY FROM NDI GROUP, INC. in KNOXVILLE, TN.!!!!!!!!!!!! OH Jeff, I got better gifts than you at the end of the season, I got a $75 gift card and a $2 keychain. What a joke!!!! Thanks for nothing.....

Ashley, I am sorry to hear you where also a victim of this very poor company. I worked for them for 2 years and know for a fact how they screw people and clients out of money. They book people to work and once they book them and agree on a price, they wait til the last minute and change the original agreement. They are the lowest paying Auto Show & Event management company out there. They will charge their client $1,000 a day for a product specialist or brand ambassador and then only pay the person $150 or less for the day. I finally got fed up with all the back stabbing employees and little baby games they play. I now work for a solid company that has been in the business for 25 years and they pay the people what they are worth! When management at NDI found out I was going to work for the other company they came to my house to threaten me about working for "There biggest competitor". There is no competition, NDI Group SUCKS!. The really sad part is the fact that the owner pays his employees s**t money while he and his fat wife sit in a THREE MILLION DOLLAR home on the lake! Absolutely disgusting. At the end of the season instead of giving each employee bonuses for their hard work throughout the year, they have a little party and give out crappy little gifts. I have only been working for the new company for 6 months & when our season was finished I recieved a CASH bonus of $800! What did I get from NDI Group after 2 years of work???? A radar detector, 2 $25 gift cards and a big fat thank you very much!!!! So Ashley, like I said before I am sorry you had to deal with these complete rip off artist, but you live and learn like I did. Anytime you want to work for a good, reliable company just let me know... STAY AWAY FROM NDI GROUP, INC. in KNOXVILLE, TN.!!!
