Talking to these hucksters on the phone never will get you anywhere, as you have found out. The ONLY way to get rid of these lowlife bottom feeding scum is to send them a certified letter asking them to cease communications with you and state you do not owe the debt and are contacting the wrong party. Google Cease Communications letter for examples of what should be contained in the letter because this is best practices in dealing with idiots that are on a phishing expedition. If they violate this correspondence, an easy $1,000 will come your way. They are allowed to call one more time (which I would doubt they will). Following the advice of the bottom feeding employee will not yield anything but future calls.

i work for NARS (national asset recovery services) in the republic of panama. your getting calls it seems like, from the collections department in Jamaica. if you know what the collections is for (ie gym membership, car payment, cell phone bill etc), call the customer service representative line for that respective company and ask to look up the account/membership with the phone number they are calling you at. tell them you now live there and the person before you has moved. they may ask you to fax in some sort of proof that you are now the "owner" of that phone line (phone company statement/bill) and they will remove your phone number from the profile for whomever defaulted on there payment responsibility. collections department agents...when they make a call just get a phone number, name and how much they owe. they are not able to put do not call notes on accounts, or ajust accounts. that has to be done through the company...(ford if it was a car note, 24 hour fitness if it was a gym membership, sprint if it was a cell phone bill)
