Our Move was scheduled for June 20th. Movers to arrive by 9am in the morning. Bid was for $9416.25. To ensure an over estimate from Odelia Vale, my sales agent, I included on the inventory sheet that she emailed to me way more furniture than I actually have. She emailed me back and said that there was no way my bid from her would come in short because she based her quote exactly off of my inventory sheet.

On move day, the movers did not arrive until almost 2:00pm. For help with the packing, they hired vagrant workers from a company called "Labor Ready" to help pack up the home. Not Experienced Packers, as you can imagine. Their packing procedures were as follows: Literally clearing out drawers and throwing items into boxes. No labeling, very little bubblewrap used on breakable items, so on and so forth. Half way through the packing and loading of the truck, they advised us that we need to pay them an additional $4000 upon delivery because they did not expect so many things in the home, keep in mind my original inventory list. We told them to forget it and unpack the truck then. At this point, they informed us that the entire $9416.25 would be forfeited to their company for cancellation. So we agreed to the additional $4000. At this point, lose $4000 more or $9400, which would you do.

Packing (in the same procedure) went on until midnight, at which time it was decided that many of my household goods had to be left behind because they did not send a large enough truck. Throughout this process, we were calling their home office in Georgia, arguing with Sammy, who did nothing but insult our intelligence and justify their behalf. When they got all that they could on the truck and were ready to leave, they said that the $4000 was now almost $7000, and it would need to be paid upon destination or we would not get our furniture. Then they asked for a TIP!!! Needless to say, they did not receive one.

We called for the next several days arguing with Sammy and Odelia, but to no avail. We had to pay the additional money to receive our goods. When they were dropped off, our mattresses were soaking wet, ruined. Our furniture scraped, dented, damaged. There was nothing in our home older than two years, and now it looks horrible. The drivers laughed and informed us that it was a good thing that we had extra insurance. We are now in the process of sorting through our broken, damaged household goods, and filing insurance claims. Do not ever use this company if you value your household goods.

from first hand experience: 1) they try to give you two bills of lading for the same shipment. very illegal 2) they charge on cubic footage -also illegal unless the truck is full (per US DOT). they will show up with a small truck just to gouge you. they will arrive late just to hurry you, confuse you, or cloud your thinking. 3) the cubic footage of the truck should be calculated by you. double check your work with the truck body manufacturer. 4) make sure they furnish you the mover's rights and responsibilities (fine of $9000 if they don't) 5)don't sign anything. print off title 49 of the US Code and have a sheriff meet them there when they arrive. 6)videotape the move and write down everything 7) make sure all 10 poins on the bill of lading has been filled out. they will get what is coming to them, but we don't have to pay them anything but 10% over the original estimate in order to get our goods. we will win this

Kelly, I am very sorry for what happened during your move. The same thing happened to me by AAA Vanlines last year. The companies are trained to lie..no matter WHAT you would have sent them (itemized list, an EXACT inventory of what you had, etc), it would not have mattered. They never intended to hold to the estimate...basically they pull it out of their behinds, and then charge whatever they feel like it at the end. There really is no rhyme or reason to it, they charge you whatever they feel you are worth. My list was COMPLETELY itemized..in fact, it was over estimated (they never moved my big items), and they charges went from about 1400 to about 5000. Some people's went up to over 30,000. It's a SCAM. They are fraudulent. Unless the laws are changed, they will continue to get away with it. I moved again this summer and rented a Penske, and it was GREAT. I never worried about losing my things, or how damaged they would be when they arrived. Good luck!

Yes, I did send an inventory list quoting 10 King Beds, 10 Queen Beds and so forth due to the fact that just recently on 20/20 and other news stations, you hear of the same kind of bad business being conducted as that of Nation Movers. I was told by Odelia Vale, that we were being charged per cubic foot on the truck, not per item being placed on the truck. Further more, their company ran the bid up by doing things such as placing chairs into boxes. Why would you put dining room chairs into boxes, except for one reason, which is to run up the tab on packing materials? And since we were being charged per cubic foot, I made a large inventory list to insure that there would be no additional charges, so who cares if the company sends a bigger truck than needed? I was willing to pay for that up front. I begged this moving company and Odelia Vale to over bid, I said it several times in several emails. I also have the email where Odelia responded that she based my bid exactly off of the inventory list that I filled out over the internet. Had I known I was being charged per item, I would have gone through and counted each and every sock and pair of underwear that we own to again, insure that this problem was avoided. Plus, take note that Diane, with Nation Movers, has made no comment on the damage that her company did to my household goods. As far as their mover's being experienced, two drivers pull into a town and hire 2 additional people from a company called "Labor Ready". Labor Ready does not give any sort of job training at all. Labor Ready is a company that places people out of work and with free time on odd jobs. Packing a full house of expensive furniture and goods to be moved across the country is not an "Odd Job". As a result, Everything that I own and worked for the last 10 years for is worthless. And the total cost was almost $17000. I can't believe I paid $17000 for all of my belongings to be wrecked. My obsession is not with Nation Movers, but with companies that have the same type of bad conduct and total disregard of their jobs and clients, as Nation Movers have proven thus far to have with us. Regarding the discount given, would $900 cover this type of extensive damage to your household goods? And I can't begin to tell you the amount of hours spent fighting with Nation Movers on the phone in order to get any sort of discount, and no apology has been given to date. I, as the consumer, in this case urge moving companies to not take the lazy route as Nation Movers did with my move, but take the time to do a walk through on a potential client's home, view their items, price and pack accordingly. If that would have been done, none of these problems would have occurred, and I would not be spending my time typing letters such as these.

Most of the junk Kelly had put in her report is a lie. Starting from her inventory sheet to the down the bottom line day of the move. When someone submitts that they have 10 kind beds and 10 queen beds, who is going to believe that, of course we will think that she only has 1 of each and she may have typed a 0 after the one on accident. Who is there house have 20 beds all together and non the less 10 queen and 10 kinds. And when the sale representative had contacted Kelly, she had submitted an email stating exactly what she DOES have in every bedroom, in her own words, 1 queen bed, 1 kind bed, etc... So we can't just over estimate by a whole truck just for the sake of over estimating, it cost us money to send out a truck and not end up needing it. Now, on her request for estimate she only had 134 items on the inventory sheet which she herself submitted through the website, and on her itemized list she only put in 50 boxes. The day of the move, the men have created an inventory sheet and kelly ends up having 250 items, and boxes a lone, she ends up having 171 boxes alone, and I will be happy to provide a copy of everything. Now who in their right mind, will transport double items, for the same amount of money, and nontheless, packing, when you say you have 50 boxes and you end up having 171 boxes, how can packing material price not go up. We used 120 boxes more, tape, paper, etc. So yes of course the price will go up much higher. We sent 4 men to do this job, and they all did their best. We are humans, not robots. Kelly was advised on the extras all along, no one loaded and then told her, you need to pay this much more, or else. That is a lie. We don't operate that way!!! We are a good company and we do our job at our best. If you want an accurate estimate, give us the exact items that you will taking, and don't say 10 king beds, 10 queen beds, and 50 boxes, then you have 170 boxes and only one queen and one king, and does not at all equivelate each other in space nor in weight. In conclusion, Kelly is obsessed with our company, which is fine, I guess we are the unfortunate ones. Which is o.k. you can't make everyone happy, but all we can do is try!!! On top of all we gave Kelly $900 discount, so how much more can she ask for!!!
