Today I received a copy of my credit report and noticed a listing as "POTENTIALLY NEGATIVE ITEMS" under the business name NACS. I couldn't find a phone number to reach this company on any internet yellow pages, so I typed in a search on google and low and behold I found ripoffreport.com!

I used the phone number I found and gave them a call speaking to gentleman by the name of Joshua Green. He stated that I had opened this account 2.5 years ago and that I had agreed to send them $300 in order to open my account. He stated that if I sent a money order for $300 to:

PO Box 86309

Medeira Beach, FL 33758

he would "settle" my account and remove the listing from my credit report. I do recall getting some information in the mail around the time they said I opened my account. I agreed to have $200 taken out of my checking account in return for a unsecured credit card. I was young at the time and after I hung up the phone I decided that I hadn't made the right choice and in order to keep the $200 from being taken out of my account, I closed my bank account.

Well, now 2.5 years later, I have a listing on my credit report stating the opening balance is $375 and that my recent balance is $2375!! I disputed the amount with Experian and got a letter a few weeks later stating that "You do have an account with us, please call us today." Nothing else, that's it.

When I called today, Joshua answered the phone, "Customer Service". He then had a difficult time finding my information and put me on hold so he could "search another system." That's when he came back and stated that if I sent in $300 the information would be taken off my credit report. He gave me an address to send a money order to and said, "Have a nice day."

After reading various things on ripoffreport.com, I decided to call them back and waited on hold for about 5 minutes listening to a recorded message that said, "All customer service representatives are busy, please hold." When someone finally picked up, low and behold it was Joshua Green again!! (Seems like a small operation to me.)

I told him that I had read various reports that his company had a bad track record of ripping people off and that if didn't close my account and remove the information from my credit report, I would file a law suit against them. He then responded by saying that, "NACS has merged with our 'sister company', Liberty Group" and transferred me to his "supervisor", Greg.

I told Greg was had happened and what I was going to do. He stated that I agreed to pay the $200 to open my account and they never got the money. So, why would my account be opened if it depended on the condition of sending $200?? He stated that, "The account was opened when you verbally agreed to send in $200." Doesn't really make sense to me as 99% of legit companies won't open an account until they receive payment.

He then stated that I owed them $375 because of "monthly fees" that had acrued on top of the $200 I had originally agreed to. I stated that I had never received anything in the mail from them and he replied, "You should've called us." I told him that I didn't think my account had been opened because I never sent in payment and I never received anything in the mail. He stated, "Sometimes things get lost in the mail."

Greg then threatened me by saying, "You're lucky you didn't receive a law suit from us and we just put it on your credit report. We won't remove anything from your credit report until you pay us $300." I said I was be filing a law suit and he stated, "If that's what you feel you need to do." And hung up.

Didn't seem too concerned.

So, in summary:

1.) Stated orignal amount I agreed to was $300, credit report says I owe them $2,375.

2.) Spoke to same representative both time I called. Seems like a very small operation.

3.) NACS has "merged" with it's sister company Liberty Group. This is their reasoning for asking money to be sent to a different address.

4.) Didn't seem to care when I threatened a law suit.
