Bought computer 7?22/07. This computer have a 3 year warranty and in home tech service. Dvd/cd player too slow. Went online to get phone numbers of Gateway found out Mpc. bought out Gateway. Well called the tech number and when I gave the tech the serial number he said I was not on thier system. Well he finally found my computer and checked out what kind of Dvd/Cd player I had in my model computer. Well he kept telling me they can't order my Dvd/Cd player right now because their system and Gateways were not fully hooked up yet. I think Mpc. took over Gateway October 2007. Tech told me if you don't hear from us in a few days call back. Sounds like a smoke screen to me. Well didn't hear from them so I called back like the first tech said. Second tech couldn't find my serial number again. After I told him my problem he looked to see if the first tech entered anything in their system about my problem..No he couldn't find anything. So he told he he will order one for me. The Tech also told me he couldn't guarantee that someone will send the unit to me. Well never received anything. This is a total rip off. 3 year warranty down the drain. Mpc is using the excuse about their system not being fully hook up to gateway!!. This is a poor excuse. Guess they want me to go away!! Fair warning if you got a Gateway? Good luck..Mpc will not help!

3/20/08 MPC-Gateway sent me a new DVD/CD player. But they sent it way too late. Feeling nothing was going to be done, I went out and bought as Memorex DVD/Cd recorder. Well just wanted to send message that MPC finally sent me a new DVD..But it was mush too late. I feel a little better about MPC.. but they have to be quicker!!

Hi, I came across your report online and I just wanted to clear a few things up. There are a few reasons why MPC may not be able to find your serial # but I am sure it's not because they want your 3 year warranty to run out. I'll give you some insight on the things going on over there at MPC and at Gateway; and although this info may not resolve your immediate issue with the computer, you'll at least know what's going on behind the scenes: MPC bought "a half" of Gateway. Not literally a half, but they bought Gateway's business unit. What that means is that if your machine is flagged as a small business, mid-size, medium or any other business for that matter, it is now supported by MPC. This also applies to government, schools, regilious insitutions etc. The other "half" which is the individual consumer unit was bought by Acer. Basically what this means is that if you are an individual consumer, you are supported by Acer/Gateway. As a side note: Acer is actually the ones holding onto to Gateway brand itself. Now, here is where it can become messy. MPC has their own database. Gateway has their own database. MPC bought Gateway business on the 1st OCT 2007 and was using Gateway's database until about February 2008 so essentially nothing changed during that period of time. *But now,* they are currently going through a migration process. Meaning ALL the info for EVERY SINGLE business, government, etc computer is being transfered to MPC's database. However, some of the data was not automatically migrated and must be manually migrated by the tech support guys you call in to talk to. Of those systems to be manually migrated some of the info was lost and is no longer there and what MPC has to do is submit a request to Gateway/ACER to get that info and *WAIT* for Gateway/ACER to respond with that info *IF* Gateway/ACER can even find it. -- like I said, messy. So customers stuck in that "missing info" hole are undoubtedly being impacted severely and sad to say there is nothing MPC can really do about it because they simply do not have the info and are at Gateway/ACER's mercy for the info -- again *IF* Gateway/ACER can find the info. In case you're wondering if it can't be as easy as you just providing your info to MPC over the phone, no it's not. The migration process of a system involves alot more than just your name, serial # and address. It also includes your warranty info, all the parts of your system etc. They are not going to replace parts for your system if it's out of warranty nor if they don't even know what parts are are on your system for them to send out in the first place. So here are all the things to consider as to why MPC cannot find your system: 1) You are either a Gateway individual consumer or retail customer. (Retail falls under the category of you buying your computer from a store like Best Buy, Cicuit City etc. Even if you are a business this is supported by Gateway retail tech support @ 408-273-0808). 2)Your system info has not been migrated to MPCs database (for whatever reason) and they are still waiting for the info from Gateway/Acer so they can manually migrate it. I hope that gave you some insight as to what's going on. Thanks, Greg

Robert, FYI, MPC did not take over Gateway in October 2007. Gateway sold their business, government and education operations to MPC Corporation so they (Gateway) can concentrate on their core consumer business. Did you buy an MPC or a Gateway computer? Did you buy the computer from a store or from a website? If you purchased from a website, whose website? You state you have a 3-year warranty and in-home tech service, both of which are not standard and usually costs extra. If you purchased the computer from a store, did you buy the extended warranty though the store (i.e., Circuit City, Best Buy)? What do you mean by "Dvd/cd player too slow"? http://www.gateway.com/about/news_info/transition.php Gateway has sold its Small Business, Mid & Large Business, Government and Education operations to MPC Corporation as of October 1, 2007. Similar to Gateway's efforts in those segments, MPC targets customers in government, business and education and provides customized solutions including PCs, peripherals and services. The combined company will have a particular emphasis in mobile products, all-in-one desktops, servers and storage.
