Complaint Review: Mokihana - Oceanside California

I am getting married on May 13, 2000 and I called Mokihana which I found on the internet, for them to make my dress and my fiancee's shirt, I talked to Susan the supposed owner joint-owner that is of Mokihana she said pick out a pattern and bring it and pick your fabric.

My mother and father were also having a dress and shirt made too, so my mother and I went into the shop on Sunday March 19, 2000 to take the patterns in. When we arrived Susan was there and we showed her our patterns and she said oh yes these will be easy to make they were very simple she said she charges $20 an hour and that it would not be any more than $260 for all of the items.

We said fine and she took our measurements and I stated to her that I specifically didn't want my armpits to be visible in the dress so she said no problem and we were all set to go and she said well we require a deposit of $100 so I said fine and wrote her a check.

About 2 weeks later I emailed her asking if we needed to come in for a fitting before the clothes were done, she never responded so a couple of days later I called and left a message and still no response I started to feel a little nervous, so finally I called and she answered and said they were just about done and I said should we come in for a fitting and she said no come by on Wednesday April 12th and pick them up, I found it very strange that she didn't do a fitting before the clothes were done, she called on Tuesday the 11th and said the clothes were ready so my mother and I went in to the shop and I saw the clothes on the rack right when I walked in and had a very bad feeling about it, so my mother and I went into the dressing room to try on the dresses right when I picked mine up I noticed the airpit area was very big and knew that when I put it on it would almost be strapless but we tried them on anyways.

We were both so disappointed that we even tried to switch dresses thinking it would help but to our dismay the same response came from us, we came out of the dressing room and Susan said I figured you were not going to like the sleeve part and I said that and we were not satisfied at all and my mother stated that we didn't want the dresses but we would take the shirts since we had already paid for the $100 and Susan said no if you are not satified we will give you your money back and said hold on let me go in the back to talk to Lenny and other owner, we could hear them talking and Lenny said well I don't have any cash or my checkbook so we will mail it to them and Susan came back out and said we will mail it to you, I was hesitant and she said what is your address, so I wrote it down and we left.

The day later my mom called to check if the check had been mailed because at this point I am less than a month away from my wedding and I have no dress and Susan said once again yes it will go in the mail today, so I figured I would have the check by Friday the 14th instead I come home to a message on my answering machine stating that she (Lenny) will not be sending a check because she doesn't feel that that is right.

I said why is that you promised us merchandise and did not meet our needs and she said well I need to talk to Susan, and she said I had just gotten out of surgery the day you came in and was not fully aware of what I was saying, also she said you didn't even show us the dresses when you were trying them on and I said fine I will come in right now and try them on for you and she said no I will not be inconvienced at this point so I said at least then I will come and get the shirts if you will not give me my money back and she said no.

This is not a way to run a business and I think she should have to pay me back.
