Stay away from Metal Mayhem and Troy Rogers!  Metal Mayhem lied about (1) the time the work would take, (2) the cost of the work, and (3) the quality of the work.

They have had my vehicle for almost 2 YEARS for a restoration they promised would take a few months.  The final bill was supposed to be $6,427.80 minus the parts I sent them.  However, in October 2018—a year after the vehicle was supposed to be complete—they blindsided me with a $36,626.71 final bill.   This is nearly 6 times the agreed upon final bill before the deduction for parts!  To make matters worse, an independent inspection revealed Metal Mayhem’s work is below professional standards, and it will take about $10,400 of repair to bring the vehicle up to professional standards.  (This independent inspection had to be rescheduled because Metal Mayhem couldn’t even get the vehicle running after they said the restoration was complete.)

As of this review, they are being sued for consumer fraud and breach of contract.  If you have been scammed by Metal Mayhem or Troy Rogers, I encourage you to write negative reviews online and file a consumer complaint with Arizona Attorney General at https://consumer-complaint.azag.gov/publiccomplaint/begin.aspx.

Here are the details of my experience.

Metal Mayhem failed to meet the expected Fall 2017 deadline for the work.  Troy repeatedly strung me along for over a year repeatedly claiming the vehicle was almost done.  On October 26, 2017, Troy said he would start painting the vehicle and “this thing should take as [sic] a week or so to put it back together after that.”  This was a lie.  In November 2017, Troy stated that 85% of the bodywork was "completed." In January 2018, Troy said the Vehicle is "really coming together," but months later, it still wasn’t done.  Troy then claimed the vehicle would be "fully done the first weekend of June" 2018.  This was a lie.  Then in August 2018, they claimed it would be done "in the next day or two."  That was also a lie.  They then claimed the vehicle would be "finished completed" the "next week."  Again, another lie.  These lies continued to happen all through August, September, and into October. Overall, strung me along for nearly a year-and-a-half.

Troy and Sharon Rogers provided me with an estimate to restore the vehicle for $19,427.80. With a $6,500 initial payment, $6,500 progress payment, the remainder ($6,427.80) due at completion.  The parts I sent, were supposed to be deducted from the final bill.

The signed contract explicitly stated "[a]ny changes made by Customer after the job has started will require Customer signature and date.  Changes will not be made until Customer has signed and dated a change order from Metal Mayhem Custom & Collision."

However, during this entire time, Metal Mayhem never provide me with a written change order to sign.  In addition, the never provide me with any kind of revised estimate.  Then, after numerous requests for a final bill with a deduction for the parts, they blindsided me an invoice for $36,626.71.  This amount is nearly six times the amount of the final payment stated in the contract before any deductions for parts.

Troy repeatedly claimed he performed high-quality work.  On 3/11/2018 Troy sent a text saying, acknowledging “quality of the job was of the utmost Importance” and even tried to use this as an excuse for his delays.  On 10/9/2018 Troy sent another text saying the work was “completed to a very high standard.”

However, an independent inspection found “the exterior paint job is below industry standards.” The inspection said in order “to meet quality expectations the vehicle will need a full exterior refinish” at an estimated cost of $10,488.80.  Obviously, this does not align with Troy’s repeated claims of high-quality work.

Settled only to find shoddy mechanical work

In order to get my vehicle back, I had to sue Metal Mayhem for consumer fraud and breach of contract.  Once I did finally get my vehicle back, the vehicle was trailered directly to a competent repair facility where they are finding it has numerous mechanical problems, including several serious safety issues.

These include fuel line leaks and brake line leaks.  It is unclear whether these issues are due to intentional sabotage or simply Metal Mayhem's poor workmanship.  Nevertheless, these problems are supposedly going to be covered by Metal Mayhem's promised warranty.  Yet based my two-year ordeal, I would not be surprised if I am going to have to sue them again to get these items covered.

Metal Mayhem claimed they replaced 266 parts on the vehicle and there are "3 or 4 totes of old parts."  Despite several requests for these original parts, Metal Mayhem has failed to return them.  Again, I will once again likely have to sue them if they are not returned promptly.

I will update this review accordingly.
