I am a Disabled American Veteran and a graduate student and I use my wife's laptop computer to complete my assignments. Mcafee virus software came already installed on her  Dell computer. The renew notice came up several days ago. My wife purchased a new Mcafee subscription for $79.99 on January 31, 2015 in order to cover several other devices. Immediately after purchase, I downloaded the antivirus product on her laptop and performed a complete virus scan. There was nothing unusual to report on the virus scan. Thereafter, the laptop ran normally without disruption or other problems. However, for three days the browser showed that the subscription was about to expire. I called the Mcafee software support number at 708-669-0373 on February 3, 2015. I explained to the technician that I only wanted to find out why we were receiving a software expiring notice when we had recently purchased a new subscription three days ago. The technician explained that he needed remote control of the computer to resolve the issue. However, instead he proceeded to run other applications and explain that foreign hackers had corrupted the recently purchased Mcafee software we just bought three days ago. He attempted to manipulate me into buying additional services he said would rid the laptop of so-called spyware and mal-ware that he insisted was on the computer. However, the laptop was working properly and efficiently before this technician took remote control of it.

After he finished perusing the laptop I could no longer access the Internet browser and he obviously removed any virus protection that was on the laptop. I refused to purchase of additinal software and services. He abruptly ended the call and rendered my wife's laptop useless.  We cannot access the Internet or any of my graduate school software or files that were on the laptop. This disruption has caused a great deal of hardship because my graduate school work is unaccessible on the laptop. In addition, I am paying for these graduate school courses through federal loans. Therefore, I believe a federal investigation should be conducted into the practices of the Mcafee Company because of the technician should have returned my wife's laptop to the functioning order it was in before he gained remote access. In addition, because Mcafee licenses these technician to pressure customers into purchasing software they do not want, I believe that they are engaging in extortion and initmidation. In addition, I am unable speak to anyone in upper management at Mcafee after numerous attempts. Mcafee will not return my telephone calls engaging in avoidance tactics. I am a Disabled American Veteran and a graduate student who expects better service from a company who has contracts with our institutions of higher learning.
