Complaint Review: Maytag - Novato California

Bought top of the line washing machine (add states it will pay for itself in water savings alone in ten years time) NOT!

(Year one) diag. Service man fee $50 show up and first hour.

Upon arrival states what I said. The problem was as I explained on the original call then told me what the problem was and parts would take a few days, cost of parts, and whom to make the payment too. $175 and he never entered my home nor even seen my machine, also stated he knew because all of them do this!

This story and battle has extended over seven years, more than likely if you are reading this site you have been ripped off at one time or another and it would be redundant to read the same ol plight over and over.

With this insight from the begining all subquent repairs I have ordered my own parts and made my own repairs.

Oddly enough I have found most every service center for some reason stock a plentiful amount of Neptune parts.

I just wanted to share my list of cost, remember NO labor, Original cost $1250 + Dryer $1250 =$2500 1st set bought in this area - got ripped right off the bat

Motor Control Circut Board X 6 times @ $175ea. /$1050

Timmer @ $75

Water Level Pressure Swich x 2 @ $45ea. /$90

Inner Drum @ $100 (used) new cost exceeded machines worth.

Outter rubber door seal x 2 @ $175ea. compleate / $350

Water Mixture WAX motor assembly x 6 @ $40ea / $240

Door latch assembly x 7 @ $45ea / $315

Cabinet door and liner assembly x 2 @ $210ea. /$420

Motor Control Board x 3 @ $257ea. / $771

Outter Air Dome @ $100 (used) new exceeded value of machine.

Water pump @ $65 (my fault - my bad)

Strut Switch @ $19 (my fault _ my bad)

Air Dome Air presure hose x 3 @ $25ea. / $75

Out of Balance @ $65

Hot & Cold Water Silinoid @ $78

Drive Belt @ $45

7 year parts Total $3858 (labor @ standard $45/hr would far exceed this amount)

These repeated failures over the years have caused $4762.73 of water damage to my personal property: ie, my house, that nobody but nobody wants to even think about much less discuss

I have given up hope on this machine paying for itself ever!

But there is always a light or silver linning to every cloud, the good guy always wins! NoT!

Maytag is wanting or offering a settlement (NOT ADMITTING THEY ARE SELLING JUNK AND THEY KNOW IT)

1)Repair Reimbursement: reimburse "REASONABLE" out-of-pocket cost related to repairs.

Upon totaling these incured cost, not including damages, I don't feel this is a reasonable amount to have to pay for repairs of top-of-the-line products, I feel they will choose anothe option.

2)Replacement Cost: (Stay with me on this one)

Maytag will pay up to $500 "Subject to Depreciation" anyone already replacing unit with a new washer to replace their Neptune machine.

If you replaced your machine the first time it broke (2yr or less) you get the whole $500 (these are the smart ones)

If you try in good faith as I have (6yrs or less) you will be awarded a whole $100 even if you paid twice as much in repairs over the years

Now looking at the notice I realise, I have owned mine 7yrs. I guess even taking depreciation into consideration zip is zip! But I haven't replaced mine yet, so I'm still a player.

3)Washing Machine Purchase Certificates: (your not going to believe this)

If maytag is not able to fix your machine: STOP THE PRESS!!!!!!

Fixing isn't the problem, anybody can fix them, but the design in combination of the lack of saftey devices combined with the KNOWN fact these machines self destruct every time you turn them on, and in doing so cause massive water damage to your property.

Maytag will issue Purchase Certificates to purchase ONLY a new NEPTUNE TOP-LOADING ($999) machine!!!

This schedule really kills me.

2yr or less (the ones that haven't really invested yet in repairs)- $1000 -ie: new machine.

Now you get down to me 7-8yr $300 + the option of taking my machine. I have to suck up the other $700

The TALL and short of it all is that however it shakes out Maytag has agreed to without admitting Fault agreed to tripple most every dollar they invest in this agreement with new sells of their new NEPTUNE machine or other "Maytag Major apliance". However you inspect it this is nothing but CYA move whith a clever sells campain.

If accepted, an owner can not ever make claim (double jepordy) against Maytag while they laugh their way to the bank.

I will not only NEVER purchase ANY Maytag products (including the cheeper lines they are ashamed to place their name on that actually seems to work) I will never recomend another one of their products nor service them.

While writing this I hear in the adjoining room, a bearing going out in my Neptune Dryer. It Just don't figure.

I originally purchased Maytag because the machine I was replacing was a Maytag 15 yrs older than myself in perfect working condition. The reason it had to be replaced was the cabinet had rusted to the point it would no longer support the waight of the machine. That's the reputation Maytag has thrown away. Another Corporate suicide. Nuf Said.
