I purchased a Maytag Dishwasher Model MO36000AWB Ser # 12511432SW from Montgomery Ward in 1997. The extended warranty has lapsed, but a 20 year warranty is in effect for leaks. I called the company and reported the malfunction and the phone attendant, Nicolas, did confirm that leaks were covered under the 20 year warranty. He said he would dispatch a serviceman to my home between 7 and 11 on 15 July 2004.

Obvious water leakage from dishwasher above.

The serviceman finally arrived at 1:30 after I had to call the service desk again. When the serviceman arrived he asked if he could use the restroom facilities in my home. He was given access to the facilities free of charge. He then inspected the unit and did verify, from the moisture at the bottom of the door corners, that there indeed was a leak. The floor was moist but no new water had accumulated, since the machine had not been used for several days.

He tested the machine with a quick cycle and no new water appeared on the hardwood floors underneath the unit. He said that the long ridge which appears along the side of the tub or liner was a manufacturing defect and not a crack. He suggested that the leak was attributable to the door latch which he tighted with a nutdriver. He advised that I leave the bottom cover off and keep watch for any additional leakage during use in the next 30 days.

If additional leakage does show up within the next 30 days he will make repairs free of charge. I paid the bill under protest because he told me of all the bad things Magtag would do to me if I did not pay. I later called the customer service line and was given the story that the service call was for a dignostic repair and was not under the warranty. I told the customer service supervisor that I was a 70 year old disabled veteran, on a fixed income and was not happy about being duped out of my money. I told him I felt that the company misrepresented itself with its advertising the 20 year warranty on diswasher leaks, since I was not an expert on dishwashers and did not know how or where the moisture and water traces on my hardwood floors was coming from.

The only plausible explanation I had was that it was from a long crack along the inside of the dishwasher.
