In March of 2002 we moved into our newly built home which had Jenn-air appliances including a double wall oven. Within 5 months the bottom oven door started to be difficult to open and close. We phoned the Maytag Customer Service number in our Owner's Manual and were given the name of a local Maytag service to fix it.

The serviceman replaced the hinges, but didn't really know what had caused the breakdown. Three months later the hinges were replaced again. A third replacement was done in January of 2003, and we began to avoid using that oven.

Several months later, the hinges needed replacing again. At this point we had a Maytag Dependability Plus contract that had gone into effect in March of 2003 and we phoned in a claim. This contract had a No Lemon Guarantee that stated if a 4th repair for the same thing was required, they would replace the appliance. BUT THEY WOULDN'T HONOR IT!

According to them, this No Lemon Guarantee only goes into effect after 3 repairs happen during the term of THAT contract. Any repairs done under the Manufacturers Warranty don't count, even though the extended warranty contract had an effective date that overlapped that first year. (Little did we know we were dealing with 2 separate entities!)

Maytag reps gave us the run around for weeks, finally saying that:

1. even though we didn't receive the Dependability Plus contract until the 2nd year, we should have called their number and filed a claim. (Get out your crystal ball) However,

2. it wouldn't have mattered anyway because the first year is under the Manufacturers warranty, and the No Lemon Guarantee states that Manufacturer's fixes don't count.

I faxed them a copy of our contract to show that our Lemon Guarantee doesn't HAVE that exclusion. They never responded. The last rep I talked to became very abusive and refused to believe our contract didn't have that language.

Needless to say, we had to purchase yet another year's extended warranty because of further hinge repairs. We've also had the light fixture repaired 3 times, and both oven doors have problems staying closed tightly during cooking, causing heat to escape and the light to come on. And there's the problem with the "F" error kicking the bottom oven off whenever I try to use both ovens. We've had the relay replaced twice as well.

This is our first house with Maytag/Jenn-aire products, and it will be our LAST!!!
