If I had done more reading on the internet I might've have avoided being the victim of a scam. As there is not much I can do now, I want to at least make others aware so they don't fall victim like I did.

I don't have a good credit. I needed a personal loan for $5000. I had applied on a couple of sites on the internet. The next day, I got an email (and a phone call) from a company called Maurier Financial. They said they had my info, went over it with me and said that I was approved for the $5000 loan. They quoted the interest rate, monthly payment, etc. Faxed me the loan documents, nothing looked amiss. Here's the part where I got scammed.

I was told that I needed to wire $950.56 as insurance for the loan I was to receive. I was told to call back or email with the Western Union MTCN number (tracking number) and that they would then realize funds. I had to wire the money to a Mary Smith in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I was told she was the local representative for the insurance company, Trinity Insurance Group Limited. Stupidly, I went along with all this and did it that same day.

Next day, I was contacted by a woman named Amanda Pearson from Maurier Financial. She advised they would not fund my loan because they wanted more insurance... hence.. asked me to send another $850. I got smart at this point and knew I was being scammed. I asked for a refund... nobody would respond to the voice mails I left or the emails I sent. I know this is a scam (after reading similar accounts from other victims on the internet).

Unfortunately, now, I am absolutely destitute

having sent this money that I shouldn't have and now I am out. I will probably lose my car or my house over this.

To make matters worse, these people have all my information, copy of my ID, copy of a blank (voided check), etc. That is very scary to think about.

I reported Maurier Financial to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and want to get the word out to as many others as possible. Don't fall victim like I did. I know we get desperate due to having poor credit, etc and it is easy to believe someone who says they are going to give you a break. Don't do it.

I feel like an idiot admitting I fell for this scam but it makes me feel better knowing I can warn others who can learn from my stupidity.
