I also worked for this company around the same time as your son. I became pregnant shortly after I started, but continued to work at the restaurant. I was working no less the 7 days a week 10 hour days short handed and with a store that was falling apart. I explained around my 7 month mark that I was beginning to go into labor and needed a little extra help I also explained they had brought a new manager in that was stealing, what I got was accused of theft myself and then moved into Lawton to work the overnight shift. From that point I went on maternity leave and they refused to give me my last check!! I went straight to workforce Oklahoma and they explained how to file a discrimination report with the proper people. I have spoken with several managers that have since quit there and all the stories have been the same once they were quitting they were accused of theft and their last check was held. I have also spoken with several past employees and know from first hand knowledge that they were being shorted hours on their checks so that the company could make payroll percentages and they had breaks deducted they never took. MTGENT has a policy that is well known...you need to take your 30 minutes or it will be taken for you. They are also really bad about paying straight hours instead of time and a half for anything over 40 a week. For any parents out there with teenagers this IS NOT the place to have a first time job. And to add insult to injury they actually expected me to come back after my child was born...disgusting!!!

First I want to say that your son took more than other people without HIV will take. He is a brave man you tell up front that he is HIV +. I have worked with HIV + people for the last 5 Years and by law they are not to tell that info to anybody that is if he only told the hiring mrg. And if he was unsuit to work in with food he would have never gotten a permit. If he only told the Mrg that hired him and that mrg told somebody and they told and etc then yu can sue the mcdonalds corp on the simple fact that the info leaked and there are many mcdonalds in lawton why did he have to drive that far to work a job. FIND YOU A LAWYER!!

First off, Peter, HIV cannot be transmitted via food products , for the virus is indeed killed upon air contact. Second, in what position are you to judge the individuals' reasons for exposing his health concerns and issues? How dare you assume he is attention-seeking. Have you any inkling as to the immense amount of inhibitions one would endure subsequent to the common knowledge of such a condition? In regards to your ''personal life'' remark, there is a distinct difference between one's "personal life" and their health. To Joyelaine, I express my personal sympathies toward your son's situation. Has he considered possible employment in a local healthcare facility/hospital? Due to his health concerns, he may find it beneficial to find employment in the medical area; perhaps talking to patients in similar circumstances.

Again, I am sorry you are having to endure so many health problems with your son, but I do have a few questions in order to understand your situation a little more. If he was fired for telling on the employees for doing drugs, then it isnt discrimination, I'm afraid. Are you sure of the exact reason he was termed? What did it say on his term papers? Doctors can diagnose an ulcer, has he had a diagnosis? (that may be something you want your doc to put in writing for future reference) How exactly have they "ruined" him in your hometown? Giving bad references? I am sure it has been depressing to have lost a job, as it is for anyone. Has he been seen by a therapist or psychiatrist for this? Will they verify that he is depressed because of his mistreatment at the restraunt? Thank for your reply. April

Why did your son divulge the fact that he was HIV positive? Something like that is none of McDonald's business unless your son engages in careless behavior on the job, such as recklessly using knives, getting cut and bleeding on the food. This of course would be a huge liability for McDonalds, NOT discrimination. Did he come out with this information for the sake of gaining attention? I cannot fathom any other reason. Also, reporting fellow co-workers as he did also makes me think he was just out for some attention. May I suggest that in the future, your son keep his personal life private, and focus on being strictly professional while on the job.
