I live very close to this store, I have probably spent thousands here this year alone on appliances, home improvement and hobby supplies. There is never enough cashiers.. and always long lines.. i wonder if these contractors in line with me get paid for this? As I was saying, I went to Lowes today to buy a Hammer, a pair of gloves, and safety goggles. I when i finally got to the register, the cashier rung up the gloves and they were 40 dollars! they were in a bin that said 9.98 or something.. and it didnt look misplaced, so I went and got the correct 10 dollar pair of gloves. When i got back to the register I simply said to the cashier that i could not believe the gloves were so expensive, he said something to the effect that it was my fault for picking them out. I said the pair for 10 dollars looked better anyway.. for some reason he took this as an insult. He thought I was arguing with him, but I was actually trying to diffuse him some, he took the goods off the counter and said it didn't sound like i wanted them so i'm not getting them! Keeping my cool somewhat, I said "Sal, Just give me the f....ng stuff." Needless to say my vulgarity pushed him over the edge and he shoved my chest and waved it in my face with his finger while swearing at me, telling me i was a no good punk kid. I was yelling back that he was being unreasonable.. actually i said he was an a-hole.. everyone in the store just looked at me like i was the bad guy, i was asking anyone to get a manager.. 6 or more employees just stood there. I was a little irate at this point yelling at Sal to get a manager.. he proceeded to check out the next customer! At this point I was actually walked(chased) out of the store by customers or bystanders who thought I was being rude and offensive to this "poor old guy"...so much for getting a manager! I immediately called the store and on my 2nd attempt spoke with Charles the operations manager.. he listened to my whole story, pretty much the same as I described above. Simply talking to Charles was not enough for me to insure that Sal is punished for his behavior, which is why I'm writing this. Just because he is elderly does not mean he has a right to talk down to a younger person such as myself. If he had shoved me with anything more than his finger I would of been inclined to defend myself. I hope Charles speaks with the other employees is watches the security tape and sees what really happened. I know I am not crazy and have never had an incident like this anywhere in my life. I'm not going to take this incident personally, it seems Sal would have a problem with any "young punk" who stood up to him.. I dont understand why he didn't want me to buy the gloves after a very minor price dispute. Needless to say I will be going all the way across town to Home Depot from now on, and I won't mind a bit just to never see Sal or have to wait in line for 20 minutes to buy a bag of screws or a hammer.

switching your allegiance from Lowes to Home Depot seem like a lateral move, at best. Blue, orange, they are all the same. Consider supporting locally owned businesses....and no, Lowes/Home Depot are not locally owned, unless you live in Atlanta

Thank you for the reply Leena. I tried to disfuse the situation all I could like you had recommended. However there was no reasoning with him. Also, as I said before I could not get a manager to help with the situation.. which is why it escalated into violence on Sals part. My actions are not to blame here Leena. Yes I did get short with him... But it is no excuse to put your hands on a customer and treat them like this. I've had difficult retail and customer service jobs where I might of wanted to jump over the counter.. However, I have enough self control to act professional and courteous, even when the customer is not. Just to repeat my point once again.. I went to this store 2 times a week and spent ridiculous amounts of money there.. I feel the incident wasn't handled properly by the managment. So I won't mind going 15 minutes out of the way to Home Depot and urge everyone not to shop at Lowe's. For some reason I have a feeling Leena is a Lowe's employee of some kind.. Regardless, it seems she is trying to blame me for the incident, and stick up for the man because he is elderly. this type of unfai teatment is the reason i wrote the report.. if a person cannot control himself, he should not work in retail, regardless of his age. Yes I acted mature Leena, however your rebuttal was not very constructive, you should consider your own "maturity" level before making such a post. =cipher

Come on friend...Consider this. If the guy is elderly and still working, then I'd be willing to bet my last dollar that he's pi**ed off that he paid faithfully into Social Security for 30+ years and now the thanks he gets is a measly check that's not enough to live on and he can't retire. Secondly, you have to treat some elderly people like you would a toddler. That's the mentality many of them get at some point, and obviously Sal has reached that point as evidenced by his little temper tantrum. I think it may be the early stages of senility. Would you scream at and make smarta** comments to a toddler throwing a tantrum? I wouldn't. I ignore them and go on about my business. Honestly, you should have simply stated that the $40 gloves were apparently in the wrong place and were NOT what you had intended to get, got the ones you wanted, and been done with it. There was no need to say anything else. By doing so you created a situation much like poking a bully with a sharp stick.
