Liberty Online Services Ripoff Consumer& Business Dishonest Fraudulent and Deceptive Billing Miami Florida
When reviewing my Verizon telephone bill, I came across a charge of $66.49 from HBS Billing Servises on behalf of Liberty Online Services. The charces were for December and January billings from Liberty Online for $29.95 each month plus taxes. At the bottom of the section, there was a statement that said "For more information on HBS Services, please access their World Wide Web Site address at: www.hbsweb.com." I tried the website and the site didn't exist. I then called the number that was listed for HBS Billing. One of the first questions that was asked was whether or not I authorized the charges. When I said "NO", he directed me to Liverty online. (He wasn't suprised!)
When I spoke with a rep at Liberty Online, they informed me that they had a record of me authorizing the charges and gave me a birthdate that I supposedly gave them as confirmation. It wasn't my birthdate. (They should get thir facts straight prior to trying to con someone.) Anyway, they canceled the services and informed me that it would be up to 60 days for them to credit the charges to my bill. When I told them that was unacceptable, they simply said I could just not pat that portion of my phone bill. (We all know that Verizon would certainly consider that a delinquent bill.)
This company seems to have scammed quite a few people. When I searched for Liberty online services on Yahoo!, the ripoffreport.com was the first listing. I hope word spreads fast of this scam going around because, I'm sure there are far too many people who just pay their phone bill without reading it.
This kind of fradulent action from a company is unacceptable. Liberty Online should be prosecuted for theft for taking peoples money via fraudulent and deceptive practices.
