Les Schwaub Tire Center Bellevue & Bothell store disagree on required repairs corruption dishonest rip-off Bellevue Washington
Saturday 3/8/03 I brought my 1997 Blue Explorer to the Bothell Washington Les Schwab Tire Center store to have the breaks checked. I had recently noticed break dust on my right front tire (any was unusual). I didn't notice any changes in the breaking, but I wanted to be sure.
I learned my lesson the expensive way as a youth waiting until my brakes were grinding before replacing them. The store took my car for at least an hour and came back and said that my rear brakes were at 25% and my front brakes needed replacing. I was told that the right front was just about to the metal, but I was told, "the rotors were definitely re-surfacable.
I was given an estimate for $189.00 for just the front. The gentlemen who helped me said that I could wait on the rear if I wanted to. I was happy and told them I would bring it in that Monday morning.
My husband suggested I bring it to the Bellevue store, as it would be closer to my work and more convenient. I drove my care home and it sat all weekend. I dropped it off at the Bellevue store. I told them briefly that the Bothell store said my front brakes needed replacing and that they quoted my $189.00. I left the care assuming they would call me two or three hours later to come in and pick it up.
About an hour later I received a phone call from their "Sales Representative". My $189.00 quote jumped to $650.00+. They said my rear brakes were completely gone as well as the front and that all four rotors needed to be replaced.
I explained to him that the Bothell store said the rear were at 25% and that the front were definitely re-surfacable. He made quick excuses and stuttered his explanation. Then he offered to call the Bothell store and talk to their manager. I told him to take my car down and not do any repairs.
Then I called the Bothell store and was told we might need to take another look at it. I took the car directly to Sears and explained my entire story as you read here. I felt that I was being taking advantage of and wanted them to be additionally careful in evaluating my car because, based on what they would presumably find, I would be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
The person who inspected my brakes said all four rotors were fine. They did not need to be replaced as the Bellevue store would have liked me to believe. The back brakes were at 25% and the front were ready to be replaced. Needless to say, I asked them to do all of the work.
