I tried to find LS website to report about the work but there is no such site. So here goes. I have a 92 Eagle Summit at 93200 miles I replaced the front struts and tires, they were worn out. Two weeks latter I started hearing a rattle, banging noise and occasionally feeling a thump on the floor board when going over rough surfaces at slow speeds or going over speed bumps. The noise wasnt there when going up hill though. But going on flat roads or down hill it was loud. I took my car to LS and they said that the motor mounts, sway bar bushings and drag links were worn out. So like any customer I let them replace this at a cost of $280.00 Well this did not solve the problem. I took the car back to LS but asked if my old friend could look at it. He found that the right front shock was leaking oil and that the inner tie-rod was bad plus the cv boot was torn. He let me see the actual worn out parts and gave me a estimate to repair.

I went to make the appointment for repairs and told the guy at the front desk that I want Kevin to do the work and they orded the parts and made the appointment for Wedsnday. I called Kevin to check to see if he was working that day. He wasnt. He was off on vacation the whole week. Anyway the guy at the desk while ordering the parts started making all sorts of excusses for why they had to replace the other parts. Which by the way werent worn out. and then started making excusses about the shock stating that while they would warrenty the shocks if I had the original invoice for them. That the banging noise still could be from the shock mount being bad. I again told him that the noise started the day they replaced the shocks.

So while LS may offer lots of tires and other parts It would be nice to be able to get the job done right the first time with out having to buy parts that werent needed and also have the warranty work done without all the excusess.

Other problems with LS that I have had is multiple attempts to get new tires ballanced and them not making sure the lug nuts are torqued to correct specks. (They have fallen off) and always having different valve stem caps on the tires than the ones that were on the car when you brought it in. It would seem that it is some sort of token to them to keep atleast one of your valve stem caps as a suvineer.

PS I am no longer a LS customer even though my friend works there.

Les Schwab Tire Center Ripoff Problem Fixed

As I said before in my report I needed the original invoice when I bought the front struts for my 92 Eagle Summit. Well I found it and took the car back to LS. I insisted that my friend Kevin do the repair this time. He is the one that diaginost the shock thumping backing noise problem. After he replaced the shocks and I took the car on a test drive on bumpy roads. I found that the banging rattle noise was gone. Thanks Kevin. So maybe the other parts installed were needed or not. The fact is that the banging noise started after the shocks were installed and went away after they replaced the with warrantied shocks. So I still maybe a LS customer only if I can have Kevin do or oversee the work. PS find a mechanic that you trust and stick with them. Roger
