I was unfortunately the winning bidder on EBay of a 1992 Mercedes Benz 500SL, sold to me by Lake Auto Group, Ozzie. I had done my homework as far as checking out them as being a reputable seller, and they had a 98% positive feedback score.

I did not realize, that a lot of items this seller sold were auto parts, and not autos. One of the items was even a pair of shoes! Many of the items sold by this seller, the item was not available to view, so I had no idea. This gave me a false pretense that this seller was reputable for selling used cars.

His ad with Ebay, stated this car had been inspected and was in "excellent condition" - all items to the inspection were checked as excellent, including the tires and A/C. He even stated in an email to me, prior to purchase, that all items were in excellent shape, because I was flying up from Atlanta and would be driving back down from Illinois were his sales lot was located.

On my journey home, the car shook violently, and I made it home and immediately took it to my mechanic. The car had 4 bent rims (the crome alloy ones that are $ 2600 to replace), and a bubble in one of the tires (Pirelli $ 250 to replace).

I also had to get major servicing done to the vehicle which cost $ 1800. Also, magically, after 30 days of having the car, the A/C stopped blowing cold air. How convenient. I'm sure the freon got added to the car right before I made the purchase. The A/C will cost $ 1600 to replace.

I contacted Ozzie to see what we could work out. He seemed at first to be willing to work with me. WOW! I couldn't beleive my ears! After a few weeks, all that was offered to me was to see if they could contact the original owner to get the original wheels mailed to me. I was not satisfied with this, as I had already replaced the tire, and the alloy wheels were a large selling point on this vehicle.

He said he would have to get in touch with the owner about any cash refund. Well, of course I waited and waited, and never got a call back. It was if they kept trying to delay me, so I could not post a negative feedback on Ebay. (they let you have 90 days from the purchase to post negative response).

I did, however, post my negative feedback and proceeded to file my clain with Ebay, which was a paultry $200. I didn't care about the money, but I could at least warrent and investigation into this seller, and hopefully get him suspended from selling other vehicles to unsupecting customers.

EBay would not settle my claim, due to the fact that I already made repairs to the car! What was I supposed to do, drive around dangerously on a tire with a bubble? Anyway, I did respond back to Ebay to let them know my intentions, and my letter was ignored.

BUYER BEWARE!
