LA Fitness took money unauthorized since August 2005. I called La Fitness on August 3, 2005 to ask to have my account, my husband's and my sister's account cancelled. I was told at that time, that I could freeze the account for $10.00 per person instead of cancel if I thought we might go back in the future. I chose to freeze it and asked if it took affect immediately and was told that it did.

On August 15th, LA Fitness pulled the normal amount of money from our account instead of the $30.00 it should have cost. It caused my account to be overdrawn and for my phone bill to not clear at all.

I called LA Fitness in Redlands, again, on August 17, 2005 to see why the money was taken and they told they had no record of me putting the account on freeze. I asked again at that time to please put our account on freeze. I asked if she was putting the freeze on as I was talking to her to make sure it was sone. She replied by telling me yes and that there would not be anymore than the $30.00 pulled from my account next month.

I wanted to know how to get my money back for them taking the wrong amount and I was told that there was no corporate number that would allow me to talk to someone, but was given a number anyways.

When I got off the phone, I called the number and it asked for an extenion #, so I put in as many extenion numbers that I could think of and left messages on at least 15 different machines. I never received a call back.

On September 18, LA Fitness tried to pull the same amount of money out, but this time there was not the funds in the account. They tried to pull different amounts out over 9 times. Each time they tried was within 3 to 4 minutes of each other, with each one occurring a bank NSF charge.

I called LA Fitness in Redlands again for the third time. My response was close to the first, in the fact that they did not have any record of me ever calling and that they are putting us on freeze now. I said I wanted to go ahead and cancel it and the girl told me it would take up to 3 months for money to stop pulling from my account. So I begged her to please make sure that the account was on freeze. She reassured me and apologized for any inconvience.

On October 15, 2005, LA Fitness again tried to pull more funds from my account and was denied. This incurred over 7 different bank charges. They tried to pull the money all within 3 to 4 minutes of each other.

I did not realize this until I deposited money on the 19th of October, but before I could call LA Fitness back they were able to pull $504.00 from my account on the 20th.

On October 23, 2005, Kevin Rogers, my husband and I walked into LA Fitness in Redlands and talked to Jessica. She told us at that time that they had no record of us ever talking to anyone and that our accounts were not on freeze. Jessica told us she could not do anything about the money pulled and that we needed to talk to corporate. I told her of my success rate with them. She told me that it was different now and that I will get a customer service rep. She told me she was busy otherwise she would call them for us right then. I made her right down on a piece of paper that our account was cancelled and had her sign it.

When I got home, I called corporate and spoke to David, who seemed to be cooperative. He was willing to refund $497.00 for the amount that they took wrongly. I was told that it would take 3-5 days depending on how long it takes my bank to put it back in. I asked him about all of the NSF and overdraft charges that he had caused me and he said that it was my banks problem to refund those fees back to us.

I called my bank and they needed a letter from LA Fitness stating it was their error. Kevin Rogers talked to Elizabeth Sanchez from LA Fitness Corporate office that was willing to fax a letter to him.

Days began to pass and I was concerned about the refund I was promised. So on November 1,2005 I called LA Fitness again and they told me to wait another day or so that the refund was approved.

I didn't receive it the next day so I called again and they said that it would take another 5-7 days for us to see a refund after approval and it was only approved the day before.

On November 3, 2005 I received only $120.00 back from LA Fitness. I was concerned, but waited until today to see if the rest would be given to me.

On November 9, 2005, Today I called LA Fitness back. I was hung up on by a manager and called right back to talk to Miguel to be told all the managers had gone home and I needed to talk with David anyhow because only part of our refund was approved and he was gone. David had received an email a few days ago, but had not called to inform us. Miguel could not see the email and was of no help.

I don't no if I will receive a refund or not, but it is hard to understand why a company with such a well-known name is so quick to take money , but so unwilling to do anything to put money back that they do not deserve.
