During 2009-2013 I attended Kaplan University on-line program. I first called just to inquire, however the tactics are plenty pushy to get one started. I was given a $1000. tuition voucher to be applied to the last term of school, if I paid my enrollment fee of $40 that day.  I was enrolled in a Health and Wellness program, soon into the program I had no interest at all.

I contacted an advisor and changed programs to BS in Health Science. I ask what my emhpasis was, and was told I did not need one. I was sent an e-mail questonaire inquiring about the program; I answered as best I could with the answers provided. The next day I found a negative e-mail addressed to someoneelse in my box concerning me, along with my answers on the questionaire(I replied). A response was sent to me and a lady from Kaplan called with an apology that it was sent by mistake. Still have copies. It was to be sent to an employee.

Three term near my last I was told by financial aid that I did not have enough funding to finish school, as classes had began I dropped a class. I was told that I could pay out of pocket or apply for private loans with a co-signer. I in turn told them that I was the co-signer as I had two students I was signing Parent Plus Loans for; they then told meto have the children co-sign and if denied send the letters of denial to the financial aid office, and I would qualify for a Kaplan Choice Loan.

This was done, I was awarded $6291, the contract was signed online with Genesis Lending with the same term as my federal loans. I graduatedand was promised help finding work, even received a call from the employment center requesting a fax of last emploment verification (still have that), at the same time I had a credit balance of $556.50 on my account. This was the amount of a scholarship given in the next to last term, I had taken this one because upon inquiring about the $1000. tuition voucher give upon enrollment, noone knew anything, they could not find it, so they had me fax my copy. I was then given a choice between the two.

Following graduation the $556.50 was sent to me, by mistake I was told a week later and ask to send it back. I was told that I owed a lender; per any contract I was not to pay any lender until 6 months following graduation. This went on for months Kaplan turned me over to collections, I was locked out of school, and no there was no employment help ever. It took the help of a ferderal ombudsman to half way stop that.

However they are still at it. There is now and never has been help in finding employment, and yes they have lied all along the way. employer do not know what type of degree I have. To add to the situation Genesis Lending, Kaplan's loan company turned me over to a collection agency while my account was in good standing.

So I will sum it up. they took $556.50 from Kaplan, never notified or documented it on a statement, told me they never ask for any monies back for any loans yet, they took and kept it. Now they turn my account that is in good standing over to Sunrise Credit Services, Inc. So now I will never get a job.

I go to make a payment on their website, I must agree to go into collections. Enough of any foolishness is enough. Shut them down because I am reday to sue them.

Update: Kaplan University takes loans from Genesis Lending

Sat, March 28, 2015

call was receive from Genesis Lending Services on 3/25/2015. The question was posed as to why the private student loan,in good standing was turned over to a collection agency.

Barabra, at Genesis explained that Kaplan was ot making the loans so much and decided to collect them themselves. However, we contacted Sunrise Credit Service and she quickly found the same respone by phone and via the web that I did. This is a collection agency that is rude, does not identify who they are when calling, and you must agree to enter intocollection before making a payment via the website.

What was also found out is that Kaplan University turned the account over to this agency, not Genesis lending,Kaplan actually took them from Genesis. Without any collections onmy credit record Kapln hasnow managed to turn me into collections a second time, and I was in good standing. Theses people are a train wreck.
