My story begins in Nov of 99. My brakes had worn down so low they were grinding and I knew that I needed new brakes on the front and rear. When I pulled into the Brake Land (formally Brake Depot), one of the mechanics watched me pull up with a hugh smile across his face. I parked the car and walked in. He explained that he heard the grinding of my brakes and said that it did not sound like good news. I asked them to give me an estimate only since I knew that I could not pay over the $99 that they advertised. (side note: before Just Brakes, Brake Depot/Land were running the EXACT commercial on the radios and tv with the same voices, etc.) So the mechanic pulls my car into the shop and 2 HOURS later comes inside and tells me that the whole brake system is shot and how surprised he was that I was able to apply the brakes at all. I asked for an estimate and it took him about 45 minutes to 1 hour to figure it up since he said that they do not "stock" my brakes in house. So he was calling dealerships and parts store looking for my brakes. The estimate came out to be $600+. I was floored. So I asked him to please put my old brakes back on and I would try another place. This is where I was hooked. He informed me that the brakes that were on my car had "fallen" apart in his hands and he would be unable to put my car back together. Then he gives me the "legally I cannot let you leave with those brakes on anyhow". What a load of *****! So I had to call a friend to lend me the money. 3 hours later they informed me that they could not find the parts and that they would put on a temp set of brakes and I could come back the next day for the "real" set. So I agreed. When I started out of the parking lot, it was all I could do to make the brakes work properly. I used my emergency brake most of the time. Well, the next day I go in and they inform me that the part was more that they thought it was so I now owed $300 more dollars. Making a total of about $900 FOR A BRAKE JOB!! Finally we got all squared away and I left with my very expensive brakes. Three months later, my clutch went out. In the process of having that fixed, they noticed that a bolt was missing from my front left brake and the right brake had a bolt that was too long and had eaten into the rotors. Since I still had a warrenty for my very expensive brakes at Brake Land, I took back to them. However! Just Brakes has brought out ALL BRAKE DEPOTS AND BRAKE LAND so the warrenty was NULL and VOID!! Thankfully the Just Brakes mechanic did fix my brakes and only charged me $32 bucks for the new bolts and a new roter. He informs me that they are not affliated with Brake Land/Depot and they there are lawsuits against those companies. But how can a company buy out another company, use their mis-leading ads and coupons but not stand by that companies warrenty? In life you cannot change your name and not have to pay back any debts! That is all they are doing. There was not a true BUY OUT! Brake Depot changed their name to Brake Land when lawsuits starting happening. Then Brake Land was having troubles do they changed their name again to Just Brakes. Nothing else has changed!! How is this legal??
