The BBB was designed to serve the public. However, what most people do not realize is business join the BBB and that is the source of their income. It does not benefit the BBB to report negatively on a business that is a member. Additionally, I have learned the BBB does not generally report negatively on a business anyway. Several years ago I had a specific complaint against a BBB business. I gave a factual report of my complaint outlining what the company did. When my attorney, who was filing a civil lawsuit against this company, contacted the BBB, they found no indication the BBB ever had a complaint against this company. I had copies of my letter to them with the certified mail green card signed and dated, clearly received by the BBB. We had numerous other complaints from other customers of this particular business and yet none of them showed up when we checked with the BBB to see if there were any complaints against this company. My attorney, on his own, did some checking and found that the only businesses with any negative reports the BBB purported to have were against companies who were not members of the BBB. It is interesting in a city the size of Austin, Texas, only businesses who are not BBB members have any complaints. It is especially interesting knowing numerous complaints were made against a BBB company and yet the BBB reports this business as exemplary with absolutely no consumer complaints. I would never consider the BBB a source for consumer information about a company.

I feel all your pain. When I filed a complaint, in full detail, of a Garage Door Scam, Stacey Fletcher, the Director of Disputes with the Houston BBB sent me an e-mail telling me never to contact their BBB again. So yes, there is a major coverup within the BBB's. Out of the majority of BBB's, there are only 3 or 4 that are doing their job. Most coverup complaints by extortion and bribery, by having the company complained about pay them for BBB membership dues. If they refuse, they post the discrediting information, if they pay, nothing is ever seen to discredit that company. That is probally what happened in this case. There as crocket as the people running these scams. Ron Berry at the CBBB is behind alot of these coverups. he helps influence the different BBB's to help with those bussiness'. Maybe someday, we can get rid of the BBB's. They don't help anyone.

Firstly I had no idea until I found this site that I too was a victim of deceptive trade practices! I had an 1980 Dodge Airies K and took it to the Just Breaks in North West Hyw. Grapevine, Tx 76051 where I used to live. They stated that the rear break cylinders were rusted and leaking and all the hardware needed replacing and that the disc Calipers need repalcing as well. (since the car had been sitting for a while I believed it) The total cost was close to 600.00 Then some years later I took my 1994 Chrysler LeBaron that I bought brand new it had 59k I wasn't experiencing any difficulty other than an occasional sweeking from the wear indicators so I took it to the one in Altamesa Blvd. Fort Worth, Tx 76133 I figured that since the car only had 59k that it surly would only cost the $99.00. They stated that the rear cylinders were crystallized due to excessive heat, and that the front calipers were causing the pad to wear unevenly i.e. the pad was wearing to the inside. The total cost was app. $600.00. Incidentally. I discovered later that uneven wear for front pads unless the caliper has double piston (one on each side of the caliper) then it will always wear to the inside because that is the side the piston is on which grabs first and pulls the other to it. This is normal wear and replacing tha caliper will not stop it. And my Mom took her 1991 Jeep Cherokee to the Grapevine store and they told her she needed $800.00 worth of work and the the breaks were very dangerous and would adventually fail. I curiously checked out Just Breaks at the BBB website for the whole state of Texas they showed no complaints. FUNNY!

I had a similar experience with the BBB in Phoenix. I tried to get some information about a transmission shop, which by that time had around 30 lawsuits. (How I found out later) The only information given by the BBB was "some disputes have remained unresolved" They knew that this guy was systematically cheating people and protected his business with this information. Obviously some BBBs are at the same level with criminals.
