The following is a simular statement released and filed with the Barow County Sherrif's Department. Who really can you trust anymore?

---------------------------

On January 20, 2004, Cartersville Mitsubishi called on the services of a local locksmith, Johnson Lock & Key, to rekey certain secured areas within the dealership.

When the rekeying was completed,T homas Johnson, owner of Johnson Lock & Key, returned to the Accouting office & witnessed the GM handing over a bank envelope to the Financial Controller to reimburse the petty cash fund.

Cash, while still in envelope, was temporarily placed in the desk drawer until invoicing, terms, & further store security issued were discussed.

As the Controller slightly turned to calculate the cost of a needed door &/or lock replacement, her peripherial vision was such that she witnessed Mr. Johnson retrieving the envelope from the drawer and stuffing it down the back of his pants.

Mr. Johnson was immediately addressed with the theft. Mr Johnson repeatedly denied the allegations. The Controller corner Mr Johnson in the office and secured the door. The GM (who had brought the cash from the bank, was then called to the Accouting office for further assistance. Mr Johnson was escorted to the Men's restroom and searched.

100% of the cash was recovered.

---------------------------

Since Johnson Lock & Key WAS our company wide locksmith (4 auto dealerships) ,this becomes a major security concern. Not to mentioned what should be a huge concern for the cimmunity. At this point we have suffered no loss. We do, however, expose ourselves to a much bigger loss given the fact our building has been keyed by a thief. We are rekeying our building 1-21-04 with a different locksmith.

The ironic part is- Locksmith's can pretty much get into any lock they want. They are required to be bonded because of this ability. !!Thank you sophisticated security alarms!! I can sleep a little better now.

I am writing to every consumer & business organization I come across and spreading the word. A complaint has been filed with the State with hopes that it will becomes a permanent attachment to his professional licensure bond.

It is a VERY rare event that a locksmith ever crosses the line, but when one does, it paints a big black mark on the entire industry. The dealership should have filed charges against Mr. Johnson and had him arrested. This course of action may remove him from the locksmith field depending on the laws governing locksmiths in the state of Georgia and it certainly would void his bond or chances of getting another. Maybe you could even post your message to other locksmiths around the world through some of the locksmith forums listed on the web, there are public areas on these sites that will allow you to do that. Locksmiths, if they are GOOD at their trade, earn alot of money, I know a few that are millionairs. I have been a locksmith for over 16 years and am very proud of what I do and hold dear the trust that my customers give me. I know that the safety and the security of the entire city where we service rest in my hands. Too those, Thanks ! I know how you must feel and for whats it's worth, I hope that you will understand that there is good and bad in everything on this planet, so please don't hold all locksmiths in a bad light, and do us a favor.... Fry his hide ! If I can help, we're in the book !
