Joe Kirby Auto auto repair and smog rip off
In late oct. i took my truck to be smoged ...It failed G.P. so i took it to a local shop JOE KIRBY AUTO 1410 AVIATION BLVD REDONDO BCH CA, 90278.I only wanted him to test the truck to find out what was wrong so that i could fix it. They quoted me 45.00 for the test they called few days later and told me that they did more test without my OK now they tell me that i owe them 182.00 they also informed me of two bad sensors( O 2 sensor and a tps sensor)that they ordered they told me it would pass smog if they fixed them for another 200.00 for a total of 462.00.
I told joe to do the work if he was sure that was the problem. 5 DAYS LATER i called him to find out what the hold up was, He then told me of yet another bad sensor ( EGR sensor )another 88.00. i let him do the work .One weak later he called me to let me know that now its my main computer. At this point i'm very mad!! feeling a little screwed. Joe tells me that sometimes its a prossess of eliminaions which i could have done, anyway he gave me the computer at his cost 215.00 and 35.00to change it out.all along assureing me this had to be it. He also said i had gas in my oil and the plugs where bad anb my water pump was going out, TWO WEAKS before all this i replaced myself the water pump and timming chain,new spark plugs ,and changed the oil, i have reciept for all the parts. At this point i refused to pay any more money and i whated my truck fixed .Now in to the fourth week he tell me that all i need now is the catalitc converter and it should pass.
I took possion of my truck and proceeded to baja mufflers and the owner told me that he would not sell me the converter because it was burning so rich the converter would burn up in a matter of days I am into this smog for over a thousand dollars! and it still not over because my truck still don't pass smog.

Daughter's car blew an engine one hour after leaving Joe Kerby's so-called auto repair. We are very lucky she wasn't hurt or worse. The police officer that came to help had oil all over his shoes after we brought the car in to check an OIL LEAK. No recourse not even an apology.

I totally disagree with this bogus complaint. I've been taking my 3 cars to Joe Kerby at 1410 Aviation in Redondo for 10 years now, and have never had a bad experience. I moved to Redondo from the Washington DC, in Aug 2001, and tried Joe's shop mostly because it's walking distance from my house. Over the decade, I've had each of my cars in for a range of services (including CA smog checks--although I never had one "smoged"). Joe's always given me an estimate, and called before completing any work if he finds something additional. Joe has kept my 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT running well past it's design life. I mentioned the report to Joe (it actually dates back to before I lived in CA), and Joe remembered this guy.
He remembered this guy, because the guy kept picking up his truck, working on it himself, and then, returning it to Joe for more work/diagnosis. Since I've had no issues with Joe Kerby over the last decade, I can only conclude that the causes of this guy's issue was self-inflicted. Not to worry, when you take your car to Joe Kerby, this consumer DOES NOT work there, so your repair will go smooth.
Joe Kerby is among the most reputable businessmen I've dealt with in CA, and I highly recommend him and his shop. Let him do his job because he does it well. ...one last thing, the only reason I ran across this complaint 10 years late, is that I misspelled Kerby when looking up the phone number today. The report is under Kirby. That's one of many misspellings that should be another clue into the validity of the complaint. it's "weak" ;-)
