you are wasting your time if you go to an lawyer or anywhere now. You'll spend more money then what it's worth. You should have just paid it in full and been responsiable. Ps the fingerhut company closed three years ago.

After many phone calls it turns out that Compucredit purchased all the debts. Even though the account was settled and paid in full and was reported to them as paid in full,Compucredit just shows it as a made one payment and still owe the balance which is just charges tacked on. They restarted the seven year period and now show me 120 days late. Also fingerhut will not give out there phone number and I cant find this info. So like the other commenter mentioned I have all the letters so ill have to turn it over to the attorny general. I felt I should keep you a breast on how sneaky they are.

Actually, what Robert described is quite common. Say you have a $1000 debt in collections. The collection agency will offer to settle for $500 and promise to clear the person's credit report. What in fact happens is they collect the $500, sell the remaining $500 debt to another collection agency, and start the clock back to the beginning of the seven-year period. If you are approaching the end of the seven year cycle, you are better off not doing anything, because any payment you make starts the clock at the beginning.

compucredit said "Your credit report will show paid in full, settled account. " If the account is paid in full and settled why would you have to pay it off again? Your email is extremely unclear.

just because you pay and account to settle it doesnt mean it goes away. Your credit report will show paid in full, settled account. So the balance just doesnt vanish. You may have to repay it someday if you end up going for a loan of some sort.

You need to copy this letter and send it to the credit reporting bureaus advising them that this debt has been settled, copy of letter attached as proof, and that the item is to be removed from your credit report. You might also wish to cc everything to your state Attorney General's office, the Attorney General's office in PA and to the FTC. Good luck.
