In December 2003, I was to travel from Atlanta, USA to Nairobi, Kenya for urgent matters. After trying various travel agencies through the Internet, I came across a better deal from the website; www.discounttravelbureau.com, which I later discovered was also linked to www.pujji.com, and www.cheapestdiscountairlinetickets.com. and all operated by the same person Jack S Pujji.

I was a bit surprised when I submitted my itinerary request during the December peak period and got an instant response within hours, with an offer of a cheap airline return ticket of $854 from Atlanta to Nairobi. I phoned Mr. Jack Pujji and he reassured me that this was a special Sale ticket jointly fronted by United Airlines, Lufthansa and Kenya Airways. Mr. Jack Pujji even sent a second email detailing the mode of payment through check, and specified that it should be sent by FedEx and wait for about 10 days of processing and delivery. I was so excited and sent message to my family and friends to receive me at the airport.

After sending the $854 check, several days passed by and I became worried when Pujji didn't acknowledge receipt of check nor answered my fax, phones, and email messages. This was unlike Pujji before, who could answer the phone within the second ring but this time round had suddenly became inaccessible. As my departure date drew nearer, I emailed to Pujji to alert him that as an international student, I urgently needed the plane ticket to facilitate processing of other travel documents, but Pujji wasn't affected and never bothered to return messages left in his voicemail, faxes, nor emails.

Meanwhile, Pujji had cashed the $854 check and my consistent two weeks phone calls and email messages were in vain. That's when it dawned on me that I was a victim of Internet Travel Scam. I did Internet search on J.S. Pujji and almost collapsed when I accessed sites related to other victims of J.S. Pujji and his company. I found about seven (7) other victims. I immediately called the United Airlines (first airline listed on my itinerary), and I almost collapsed when they confirmed that my name was missing from their reservation list for that particular flight as per my supposed departure date. The airline official also clarified that united airline had no business relations with a JS Pujji nor his company or associates.

Meanwhile Pujji had become incognito, went underground and never answered my phones nor returned left phone messages. One day, I phoned Pujji anonymously (by disabling caller ID information). When I confronted him about my ticket and his company being implicated by third parties as the perpetrator on Internet scams, he claimed that he was unaware but promised to refund my money on 01/09/04.

Jack S Pujji is a sweet talker, a confident conman, smooth operator and really knows how to assure and reassure his victims. During our phone talk, Pujji sounded so remorseful, mentioning that he was from India and promised full refund ($854) in two days time. It is now February 2004 and the date of my departure has come and passed with no sign of the air ticket, no refunds and no word from the sweet talking conman operating in New York.

It took me many months to save the money for the international trip and this has really caused grave physical and emotional stress to my family and I. It will take me many weeks and several months to raise enough funds for another air ticket. My Bank (Wachovia Bank) could not compensate my money as it's not within its Bank's policy to refund their customers, who are victims via check transactions.

I'm emotionally disturbed with this incident, as I had never imagined that I could be conned in a developed country like USA. This kind of experience may make one to develop phobia to associate with Indians, or visit New York, or travel with certain airlines because of the previous sad experience and subsequent emotional fear of possible repeat of similar event.

I really wonder why the conman, Jack S Pujji still operates in New York, frauding more victims by luring them through his website which the tabloids needs to be call Pujji's website of frauds travel bureau or something.
