Yes the one gal that wrote said they are nice to your face to get you signed up. Once you are they don't remember you and don't have the time of day to say hello and how are you doing.

The only time they had time for me was when it was time to come in sign papers for student loans. Pretty much I have to agree with everything said from the other ripoff letter.

The promised job plaement after I graduated, well catch 22 came into place. No one would touch me, all the same, get experience. With no externship b-4 graduation its kind of hard. I spent $9,000 on school to become a medical coder and nothing. Still today, all I have is a piece of paper and a loan paid off.

Indiana Business College Response

As a graduate of Indiana Business College, I would like to address some of the points you made in your posting. First, there are no repercussions in being a for profit school. In fact, I believe it makes a college more aware and reactive to the needs of their students. The mission statement of Indiana Business College is to recruit students from a cross-section of academic and economic backgrounds, to provide concentrated, career-oriented, college-level training, and to provide career placement assistance to our graduates. In my opinion, Indiana Business College is committed to this mission and to its students and graduates. Regarding accreditation, Indiana Business College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). The Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) is a national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). ACICS accredits more than 680 institutions throughout the United States and more than a dozen foreign countries enrolling approximately 650,000 students. ACICS dates back to 1912 and has been recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education since 1956 (just four years after the recognition process was introduced). The Secretary's recognition confirms that ACICS is a "reliable authority concerning the quality of post secondary education or training offered by educational institution" which it accredits. Just to clarify, accreditation is a status granted to an institution that meets or exceeds the stated criteria of educational quality. The purposes of accreditation are to assess and enhance the educational quality of an institution, to assure consistency in institutional operations, to promote institutional improvement, and to provide for public accountability. Accreditation is not in place as a legal way of not being able to get sued. To respond to your comments about credits not being transferrable, IBC covers that topic in the career planning session with admissions. In addition, once a student is approved for enrollment, they receive a course catalog that covers policies and procedures. The section Credit Transfers to Other Colleges states, Indiana Business College courses are not specifically designed to transfer to other colleges. However, some colleges may accept credit for individual courses completed. Many colleges permit students to receive credit upon successful completion of an examination in subject areas where they have previously taken courses. In all cases, it is the responsibility of the student to inquire about the policies and procedures for transfer of credit at the receiving institution. Indiana Business College will assist by providing documentation of grades earned when requested by the receiving institution. One last issue I would like to cover is your notion that IBC guarantees work and a nice salary I don't think any college could guarantee that! I believe that all college's hope to produce graduates that will be employable but IBC goes above and beyond by providing students with the tools and resources to assist them in their employment search. Each campus location has a Career Services Director with employer contacts, there is a Career Development course that every student has to take before they graduate. In that class they have guest speakers, allow for mock interview opportunities, offer resume writing tips, educate students on how to execute follow up, etc. I think many would agree with me that as graduates we have to take some accountability for whether or not we are employed. In closing, I would recommend that you contact the school director to discuss your concerns in confidence. Indiana Business College places a premium on student and graduate satisfaction. They are interested in any student or graduate who has an issue. These issues typically arise due to a lack of communication and then frustration can set in. I encourage you to reach out to them and see if you can work together to resolve your concerns.
