Well, Well Well,

Like others, I noticed a line item bill on my small business phone bill from Verizon. This item was titled "billing for ILD teleservices" ,which bills for Liberty Online Services.

I contacted my local phone company and immediatly blocked Third party billing, which by the way does not stop it all, but sure will make it more difficult.

In a call to ILD they refered me to Liberty, which I actually got a human on the phone... Thanks to this website I was armed with all the info. on them, so they proceeded to tell me that yes indeeed I had "authorized" the services, blah, blah, blah...

They did produce a recording of my wife "verfying" our company information, the operator spoke very bad English and was very difficult to understand. In listening to the playback, she never did acually authorize anything. Anyways, I just hounded the person on the phone that we did not "authorize" the service, and did not want it, and that we would like the account closed. They slowly proceeded to let me cancel the account even gave me a order # ...

at this point in the conversation I "remembered" that I too have recorded the phone call for "quality control purposes" ...suddendly the operator went quiet and told me that that it was legalt o do that. Imagine this type of company trying tell me what was legal! I asked her if she was recording her call, she said "yes, for qualtiy control purposes" then I asked her what the problem was, she then terminated the call.

Before the good call went bad, they had agreed to canceel my account and send me a fax to verfy it...we'll se if that happens...

Words of Wisdom:

1 Get thrid party blocking on your phone numbers.

2 Do not ever listen/respond/or answer any unsolicited calls to you. Kindly state you do not accept these calls and and request to be removed from their calling list, then HANG UP!

3. See number 2!

4. If you get "crammed" report it to your local phone provider, then your state regulatory commission, then to the FCC and anyone else who will listen!
