Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Somehow I got switched to a 3rd party supplier, don't remember talking to anyone and certainly don't remember signing anything.  Suddenly my bill goes from 60 dollars to 400 dollars a month.  I was getting a bill from my gas company and this supplier.

My gas company, South Jersey Gas, is also useless with really shitty customer service and its practically impossible to get a live person on the line and they never answer customer service questions.  still waiting on that.

So I found this IDT Energy and phone number on my bill and called them up.  First they couldnt find me, name, address, phone # etc and finally "Oh there you are how can I help you" .  So I said cancel this service I didnt know I had in the first place.

The speal was well our prices fluctuate (eye roll) and you are paying .99 per therm but we can lower that to .62 a therm.  It was like buying a car.  How the hell can gas suddenly go down by 40% once you call them out on it.  Total horse s***.  Stay far away from 3rd party suppliers.  On the bright side it was easy to cancel but it will take 2-3 billing cycles of course so they can gouge me some more.

You very well could have been "slammed".  This is where a company switches your utility service without your knowlege or approval.  Very often they will do this by offering to review your bill or other pretense.  Then once they have your account number they contact the utility and switch your service.

What you need to do is to file a formal complaint with your State's Public Utility Commission.   It looks like you are in NJ if so the website you want is

bpu.state.nj.us/

If you are in a different State the information should be on the bill you receive if not you can search online and usually find it pretty quickly.

One thing that companies hate is when the State gets involved, and you will very often find them bending over backwards to get you(and the State) out of their hair ASAP.  You may find that you not only no longer have to wait 2-3 billing cycles but may even get a further reduction of your current bill.

Now, this isn't guaranteed but in the end it may save you several hundred dollars and be worth the few minutes of filing a complaint.
