Hugely Emergency Physicians Hospital says I never contacted, sent debt to collection agency Keene Texas
Last year, I had an emergency visit to the hospital in the middle of the night for kidney stones. I was barely making any money at the time, and it took me several months to contact them and work something out. I worked out a plan with the hospital themselves after they gave me a significant discount, but the actual physician has been very difficult to work with.
I requested multiple times for them to consider a reduced cost. They did, once, but the reduction was so small that I still could not afford the bill. Supposedly, they were making notes on my account about it, however I find out today, now that they have sent the bill to a collection agency, that none of the times I called them were recorded?
I called them and they said that they "can't" pull the account from collections, which is a load of crap because another hospital did that for me and also found a charity to help me with the payments.
All of my hard work cleaning up my credit report has been completely trashed all over again because I'm poor and can't afford emergency hospital bills. The collection agency says that the only way to avoid having my credit wrecked is to pay them in full within a month of their notice, but gee if I had that kind of money, don't you think I would have paid off the hospital directly?
Now I feel like I have no options, and after having my credit clean for a grand total of three months, it's destroyed again and there is nothing I can do about it because I don't have hundreds of dollars just sitting around with nothing else to spend it on (like rent, car, and food).
Is there anything I can do to convince the hospital to pull the debt, or do I just have to live with ruined credit for another 7 years and never be able to get a loan or buy a house until this falls off, again?
