After spending four nights and five days aboard a large boat from HCYC we returned the boat 15 minutes before the time it was due back. Upon return the boat had been cleaned very thoroughly by myself, my wife and friend. We were proud of the condition of the boat upon return.

10 days later we received what was left of our $1200 damage deposit. $615 dollars was all that remained.

The owners explanation was that all of the carpet had to be shampooed and completely cleaned since there were stains everywhere. This was completely untrue, there were no stains at all. The carpet probably was just vacuumed by him.

He also said we damaged the propellers and charged us $300 to have them repainted, again a complete rip off because as a boat owner I can have it done locally for $50.

So we feel that he charged us $285 to vacuum the carpet and completely ripped us off on having the propellers repainted.

Our complaint is that we paid him $2075 to rent the boat for four nights five days. We should not be held liable to have a boat vacuumed upon return especially for $285. If you rent a hotel do they charge you extra for cleaning the linen and vacuuming the floors?

I read this and don't believe the charterer. I have chartered my personal boat out for 6 years in Newport RI and have boated for over 35 years. $50 for a propeller repair, in what year? I believe the boat was brought back dirty and the charges legit. Jc
