HP DV7 REVIEW

I wrote a review over at HP telling them how I had a really bad experience with the Notebook purchased last Christmas. The issue: the unit failed (maybe due to the recalled battery or the defective video chip) I dunno. Either way it was out of warranty a few days when I was told an Escalations manager would call me. The next day I was contacted and the manager  (I wont name him or her) stated my notebook was out of warranty and there was nothing that would be done for me. I was not happy to say the least. I pleaded with this person and stated I had been a loyal HP customer and had actually worked for the company as a Support supervisor back in 1998  -2000. My reason for not knowing about the issues before was this laptop was stored in a laptop bag while I was in the hospital for the past half year (it was one purchased for my Uncle who passed away last June). The information fell on deaf ears. I attempted to contact the CEO and my cousin even corresponded with the powers that be at HP with no resolution.  I have taken a big breath, let it out and made my peace with this lost cause. I will no longer purchase HP computers. I have to take a stand on this and all I ask of you (the reader and potential customer) is to remember what they did to me, one customer aka the Howard Beales of todays disposable consumer electronics.  Join me if you can against the poor customer service and let us send a message ala  Howard Beale:

IM AS MAD AS H*LL, AND IM NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE! I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell Im as mad as h*ll and Im not going to take this anymore! Things have got to change. But first, youve gotta get mad! Youve got to say, Im as mad as h*ll, and Im not going to take this anymore! Then well figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:

Here is the review I am certain will not be posted on the HP site.

HP DV7 series DV9000

Yes I bought two last year

These two products made me lose faith in HP products for the final time. I have purchased only HP (I used to work for the company a few years back) and love them. I still do but because of faulty video, defective batteries and poor customer service I have made a decision to go elsewhere for the next purchase (actually to replace my DV7). At first the unit was like a dream and actually had strangers come and look (I am certain it created a few sales for HP). Then the issues: the web-cam failed, then the battery issues and finally the video chip fried. It was a few days out of warranty (due to being in the hospital was unaware of its defects). I pleaded with the customer service manager for help and I got we will not help you and was very condescending to me. This person made me feel like a criminal for wanting to get my monies worth. I was shocked at the lack of compassion. I wrote a letter (unanswered) to the CEO. The defective products alone did not drive me away, it was the lack of good/degrading customer service that pushed me. The notebooks are really nice and should last you the length of the warranty, if you do buy one get the extended warranty YOU WILL REQUIRE IT.  One last word, I have not always felt this way about the company, I am sure someone just dropped the ball whats the loss of one customer. Singed IwillmissHP (Unhappy was already taken)

I am going to save my money and buy Apple products from now on. More money but I have had excellent customer service and warranty issue have never been a problem. Most people I speak with (Apple customers) have a similar story about how they take in a product for whatever issue, and regardless of warranty have Apple take care of them with no question.

HP let me down so many times in the past, this last time was the deal breaker. They may have been in the right legally, but I was still ripped off for buying a product from a name I trusted. I paid good, hard earned money for defective products.

Bad video chips, defective batteries and horrendous customer service equate to being ripped off in my book.

No HP Rip-off Here

I don't see any rip-off on the part of HP here.  You knew when you bought it what the terms of the warranty were.  Your hospital stay, previous employment and dead uncle are irrelevant to the issue.  Also, what's "a few days?"  I have friends whose equipment was a month out of warranty expect service because it's only been a "few days."  If it really was less than a week or so, I think it is poor customer relations on the part of HP not to give warranty service but legally, they aren't obligated to do so.  This is no rip-off, just business.
