Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
This is one of the worst cases of Security Mismanagement and Employee misconduct I have ever seen. Not only was our safety at stake, but we were ROBBED of personal property and left with a feeling of total insecurity.

It began as a business trip to our monthly meeting to the VBA (Virginia Bowhunters Assocation). An organation that competes at Archery Clubs, both Statewide and Nationally.

We registered in at 1:00pm Sat 11th under both our names, (only 2 women) & (2 pass keys)....We left our room at 6pm on Sat. Jan 11th,2003 for a bit of shopping before our meeting at 7:30. We were at the meeting by 7:00 to visit with some of the other VBA Members. We did not come back to our room untill 11:55pm.

The next morning as we were getting dressed to go to the 9:00am breakfast meeting , we discovered our suit cases had been rummaged thru and our belongings were GONE.

We called the main desk and spoke with the acting manager, who sent a security man to our room to read our keys and locks. With the new computerized SECURITY SYSTEMS, they can now tell the time and date of each time the key is used to unlock a door. It showed at 7:25 Our room was entered using a guessed pass key (just like ours). Of course we could prove where we were and in further investgation the Hampton pulled the computer records and found a 3rd KEY had been made approx. 20 minutes before its use..

Upon Questioning the Desk Clerk on duty she admitted making a key for a BLACK man who said he had LOST his key for room #205 (our room) but she had NOT checked, verified, ask for ID, nor did she even bother to CALL US and ASK if we were expecting another guest...she JUST MADE HIM A KEY to a room, registered to 2 women,(middle aged & white) alone.

Outrage doesnt even begain to discribe our feelings. Our Privicy, loss of unreplacable items and the feelings of violation.

We did a Loss and Incident Report with the Hotel and the Police was called and also a report was taken, However as of yet, we are out approx $6500.00 + the feelings of insecurity.

The Hampton has yet to call or offer to reemburse our loss. If any one Knows a GOOD LAWYER tell him to reply to this..

Hmm. . .Zob, I don't think you read Debra's original post correctly. Did you not see that a hotel employee had made another key for the room without making a reasonable effort to check the veracity of the questionable man's story? If it hadn't been for the employee's *complete* disregard for the guests' safety, the room would not have been broken into. If it were just any run-of-the-mill break-in, of course the hotel would not be liable. This situation is totally different. Also, its 5 years old, Zob. After that amount of time, your response just makes you look catty. Really.

The Hotel Is Not Liable for Your Property BY Virginia State Law

It is YOUR responsibility to read the legal notice posted on the back of the guest room door when you stay in a hotel. In the state of Virginia, a hotel is not responsible by law for any items left in a guest room. Safe deposit boxes are available at the front desk for guests' use to store valuables. This is one reason you are having such a hard time getting results; the law is on the side of the hotel. Another reason is your probable exaggeration. Had you been honest and said that you had $200 worth of clothes stolen from a suitcase, the hotel probably would have compensated you immediately. But when you exaggerate and say that you lost $6500 (!) from a suitcase, the dishonesty on your part is so obvious that it screams of fraud. I wouldn't waste my time or money if I were you on lawyers unless you can prove that you had over six thousand dollars in your suitcase, and have a really good explanation as to why you ignored the legal notice in your hotel room informing you that you are the one responsible for any items that you leave in your room. The responsibility in the eyes of the law in Virginia lies squarely on your shoulders. This has nothing to do with the Hampton Inn brand either, the same situation would have occurred in any brand hotel if you report that a felony has been committed and then wonder why the the hotel manager would not handle it and instead turns it over to their insurance company and their attorneys for resolution.

Yep, You guessed it. STILL WAITING. We have been since Jan 11, 2003 for them to settle our claim. Please help me boycott Hampton, Hilton etc. They claim ownership to 100's of hotel chains under different names. Home office in Calf. Their web address http://www.hiltonworldwide.com However, every one of the Hampton contact addresses come back as name not known, returned to sender. SELECTIVE is based out of N.J. Yep. I'm ill as hell. and I have put a call in to my Lawyer. Enough is Enough.

WE were finally contacted by their insurance company, 2 weeks ago...HOWEVER, Here it is 02-12-03 and we are still waiting FOR THEM TO FINISH THEIR INVESTAGATION. Who are they investagating and what has that got to do with us, they know what happened, we sure as hell didnt have access to secuity camera or key codes or computer data. I resent the fact they think we are dumb country girls not smart enough to figure out their trying to pass this off as our fault. WHY are we having to deal with THEIR insurance, they keep asking questions, but wont answer ours. I believe if I was in their shoes I would have taken care of the customer quickly and quitely and then pursured the insurance and quilty person or persons. I guess nice is not going to get us anywhere.

Here it is the 29th of Jan 2003 and STILL NOTHING but computer words from PUBLIC RELATIONS in TEXAS. I CALLED to speak with the district manager and was told he had been advised not to speak to us or answer questions. As of yet we have not obtained legal counsel,, BUT thats about to change. WE have had 5 lawyers contact us in regards to this , begging for the case. (Yes I sent the information to them just in case we procced with a suit). I also have sent our story to newspapers and tv stations. Looks like thats the only way we are going to get their attention. Just think,, SECURITY is at the highest level I have ever seen in my life time and a perfect stranger walked in off the street and obtained a key card at a major hotel chain with out ID, permission or verifacation. This could have been YOU making this report or My Child after I had been killed, raped, etc. We will never know what if's ,Thanks to dead bolts (I locked after we were in for the night) but WHAT IF I had'nt..????
