While job hunting, I came across what looked like a legitimate job posting on a very legitimate job posting web site. The description was for marketing from home (a telecommute job) with no cold calling or outside sales.  I completed the lengthy application (which made it seem that much more legit) and received a professional email requesting a phone interview.  I set it up and proceeded to do research in preparation--only to find out that this is a cover name for an MLM called Melaleuca.  Melaleuca may be a good product, but it's not fair to lie to people who are job hunting in an attempt to suck them in.  Don't respond unless you are game for MLM.

I am deeply saddend by this report. This is not a scam, if it were I would not be bringing in a pay check, along with others on our team. Our team not only helps people earn an income from home, but helps in their health as well. It is unfortunate that what may not be for someone, is a perfect fit for someone else; however, the person that it is not for tries to bash it. And I truly apologize if you feel that you know more than the Better Business Bureau or the U.S. Chambers of Commerce about Melaleuca being an MLM (which Melaleuca is not). You may have done your research on opinions of others but not actual facts. To actually take the time to write a report on a rip off site and not have the facts, try to sabotage others is just truly not fair. We do not do sales, we do not do cold calling, we don't do any of those things. Yet, without even coming to an overview you had your mind made up before hearing actual facts, and are trying to ruin it for others. That is extremely unprofesional. I do wish you luck with your direct sales job.

Melaleuca is not sales, in fact, we are NOT allowed to sell the products, its against the company policy. (and yes, I understand that people do break this rule, but it isn't allowed) Thats why I'm really sad that you feel like you were lied to, thats definitely not the intention of our business, and Green Essentials Marketing is a great team of people who want to help people reach their goals of financial freedom and bettering the environment and helping get toxic chemicals out of your household.

The MLM companies are different because of downlines and uplines, the people at the top of the company are the head of these downlines, and the corporate level at Melaleuca are not allowed to have any customers, meaning that those who are promoting the company (doing Consumer Direct Marketing) have no corporate interest in the company.

Melaleuca is, in fact, a MLM business.  MLM does not equal pyramid, and I did not denigrate the MLM business philosophy.  Almost all sales organziations are MLM.  It's actually a legitimate and very good sales philosophy.  I did not like the fact that the job posting was deceptive. In fact, the entire website to which I was directed did not mention the product a single time even though the site is extensive and well put together.  If you sell Melaleuca (or anything), you are in sales--direct sales--which is what the job posting specifically said the position did NOT entail.  I have nothing negative to say about Melaleuca, MLM in general, or direct sales.  I did not like being deceived.

I'm sorry, but you really didn't do your research, I've worked with Melaleuca for years, and am very successful. We are not in Direct sales, we are not an MLM or pyramid. Yes its commission based, but guess what, I get a monthly check from Mela from my customers shopping there, and it pays the bills quite nicely! I'm an independent marketer and its a contract position. Good luck in  your job search, because we do understand that its not for everyone.
