I could have copied the other user's complaint and it would be my same story. Same problem.  We also have used Grasshopper for years at the charter price, since then it has gone up quite a bit.  We have THREE accounts with them and in the last 6 months we are noticing a large volume of minutes used.  Like the other person, we rarely use the phone and rarely receive calls.  But now we are getting big bills and they are saying that there are bots that call our numbers and there is nothing they can do.  BUT get this 1.) There are NO messages left and 2.) We show 2-3 Minute "Hang-ups" that we get charged for as usage!!.  I have called about this and yes, they will issue a credit, but I am not going to call them every month to ask for credits on calls I never made or received.  And you know, I was thinking the same thing:  They are probably the ones who are making those bot calls to  increase their revenue?.. It is very suspicious and if I didn't like the service so much, this complaint should be going to the FCC or whoever handles that type of thing.

Hi MSimpson,

The calls you’re receiving are an industrywide problem that is affecting all carriers, not just us. These types of calls are actually being investigated by the FTC and they have even offered a $50,000 reward for a solution to this issue.

We’re just as frustrated as you are with this problem and we’re doing everything we can to try to prevent and reduce the amount of calls our customers are getting. Unfortunately there is only so much we can do to prevent these calls until there is a better industrywide solution which is why we’re happy to credit your account until there is a better solution in place.

We’ve written a blog post for our customers to explain why this is happening. It includes links to CNN and other reputable sources covering this issue.  You can read it here: http://grasshopper.com/blog/spam-calls-how-why-theyre-happening/

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me at reviews(at)grasshopper(dot)com.
