I bought a handstand training course for $99. I don't know what possessed me to pay that much, but I thought that for that much money, there must be something great in there. After all, the ad said that if you think $99.00 is expensive, then think again because conventional training methods won't give the power given by this course. In addition, there were a lot of very specific claims about what could be learned from the course.

In actuality, the course never gave real evidence why this training was better than conventional training, and gave no instructions that someone couldn't figure out themselves with just minimal thought. Basically, the course just said use a wall or spotter to get started, get used to being upside down, gradually increase your range of motion, and eventually change hand positions to make it harder.

I never saw detailed, non-obvious instructions on any of the advertised claims such as: How to Instantly double your balance and coordination! Or: Ways to quickly eliminate any fear of being upside down or of falling! I have sent 2 emailmessages asking for a refund and gotten no response.

To Whom it May Concern,

I am a repeat purchaser of Matt Furey Enterprises/ Gold Medal Publications product and have never found it to be lacking in informative and inspirational content.  The product has always been presented professionally and shipped in a timely fashion.  Instructional material has always been clear, complete, and expertly informed.  I would recommend it to anyone needing or wanting (but wanting is surer when it comes to end results) effective personal and/or professional motivation strategies or a demanding yet rewarding physical exercise program.

Sincerely,
James A. Tomlinson

I have also ordered products from Matt Furey. I have never had any problems with his comany. I followed the instructions in his book, and I received many beneftis from them. I have continued to do business with his company because of the quality of his products. I called them once with a question regarding exercises in his book, and they did assist me. They were polite and very helpful. Anybody can do these exercises if they take the time and read the instructions.

To Robert, in Dublin, OH; You won't receive a response. It is Mr. Furey's firm policy to not issue any refunds. There is no guarantee on his products. He feels he has all the answers, and if anyone disagrees with him or anything he says, he throws a temper tantrum like a two year old who has just been refused a candy bar, and touts his 'world kung fu champion' status. The ironic thing is, he turns this behavior to his advantage, from a marketing perspective; and this is essentially what he is good at: marketing. As you read his 'in your face' ad-copy, the promises, see the high prices, and notice he doesn't issue refunds, you have a tendency to think, "Boy, this guy must really have something". This is an old, tried-and-true marketing technique. Unfortunately, I learned this too late. As far as being a 'world shuai-chiao kung fu champion', this is technically correct, but misleading. If you watch the 'fight', Mr. Furey is breathing quite heavily, and was at least as 'beaten up' looking as his opponent. He (Furey) only won the contest by way of a judges decision. The same way a boxer 'defeats' his opponent by connecting with more jabs in each round. They likely never would have actually knocked their opponent out, or even scored a legitimate TKO, but because they scored more jabs (touches really), they win the match. Same thing. I also purchased the handstand course, and, I'm embarrassed to admit, several more of Furey's materials, each time hoping the next would be better than the last. Poor quality video and audio (material shot outside does not make use of wind-screens on microphones), poor 'instruction'. the books do not convey the information well, and have horrible quality black and white photos that look like they were run off on a public xerox machine which badly needed it's toner replaced or adjusted. It's true that fitness courses are not (and should not) be sold based upon fancy glitz, but a little attention to detail and quality could be observed. Especially when we are expected to pay ridiculously over-valued prices. I'm not saying his materials have nothing to offer, but they are without question horribly over-priced, and there is much hyperbole in the propaganda. $20 to $40 per course would be more realistic, and more appropriate. For the large packages (which I have not and will not purchase), perhaps as much as $99. Anything more is highway robbery. Look around on the net for used courses if you are interested in checking out his materials. They are not hard to find, and you'll most likely pay much closer to what they are worth. You'll also probably find alternative resources that are far superior. I would name some here, but I don't want this to come off as a promotion for something else. Handstand training *is* highly effective at building strength, but ideally should be structured with other exercises, especially other gymnastics based exercises. I bought the course already being aware of what handstand training could do, but in the hopes that there was some 'lost' or obscure, or otherwise advanced variations and instruction. As Robert from Ohio noted, there is nothing in this course, or any of Furey's courses I have, that can not be figured out with a minimum of thought.
