I received a telemarketing call saying i had won a diamond watch as being a special card holder. They continued by saying that since I was a special customer that I could receive three free magazine subscriptions and all I had to do was pick one to pay for. It didn't sound like a bad deal so I said yes. They called me at work later that day when I was busy so I verified the magazines I wanted for free and the one to pay for without evidently listening. They billed my credit card fo supposedly a one time fee of supposed to have been $9.00 but ended up being $49.00. I tried calling as soon as I got the statement showing this but received a recording saying that I was to leave my account number and phone number and that my call would be returned within 5 working days. No call, couldn't talk to a live person at all. Two weeks later I finally got through to someone and asked to talk to a supervisor. He told me that all I had to do to cancel was to return the watch, which was supposed to be Fed-exed and hadn't gotten to me yet, and to mark on the papers CANCEL and that it would be taken care of. I done that the same day, and sent it with a return receipt,so they would have to sign for it. I got the card back showing it had been received. I get another statement from them showing they took another 49.00 from my credit card. I called the credit card to cancel any more charges from this company but they said it had to be done by them.I tried to call this outfit again but got a recording. I hit a random ext. # and got a live person and they transferred me to another Supv. She said it had to be cancelled within 3 days of receiving the watch and that it couldn't be cancelled and that it would be 49.00 each month for a year for this one subscription. The company is Global Reader Service somewhere out of New York. I have filed a complaint with a consumer protection agency and have written a complaint to my credit card company. that has been almost three weeks and I have heard nothing yet.
