Gibson Trust Inc ripoff deceptive company Pompano Beach Florida
I signed on with Gibson back in December of 2000 to consolidate my credit card debt. The person I spoke with - Lisa Colbert - was very helpful and friendly and made us feel at ease with going with Gibson for our debt management. However, shortly after we were signed on, we began to get harrassing phone calls from our creditors.
When we called Gibson about it, they said there was nothing they could do about it (I just looked at their web site and they claim they'll stop harrassing calls. That's a blatant LIE!) When they finally did start making payment to our creditors, it was not in a timely fashion - it was late almost every time. We went to buy a new house in the fall of 2001 (we had to relocate for work purposes, and that was not something we forsaw) and found out then that our participation in Gibson's program DOES show up on our credit report and DOES hurt our credit - it counts as having filed bankruptcy for 1 year after signing on due to you are having someone else make your payments for you!
Gibson LIES! They told us our credit would not be affected - and their web site states that as well still! We have withdrawn from the program just last month (we sent them their certified letter) and have not heard anything back from them as far as our withdrawal from the program. They have sent us a note requesting more funds - I've left numerous messages with them (always unable to find a person who will actually return my calls) and figure if I wait long enough, maybe they'll actually call me!
We just wish we'd known what a poorly run operation they were back when we started so we could've avoided this nightmare! We were told we'd have our debt paid off in 4 1/2 years. When I finally calculated the numbers this past summer based on the rate at which Gibson was making payments on our debt - it came out to be more like 7 years. And of course when I called them to ask how they had come up with the 4 1/2 year quote - I could never get anyone to call me back. They are totally unreliable liars!
