I attended the George Ranch Campfire Christmas on Saturday Dec. 12, 2009 after reading about it in our local newspaper (the Fort Bend Herald).  It sounded like a fun holiday activity.

The weather was not the best, however I was lead to believe that we would be riding a hay wagon between areas.  We had to walk in the mud in the dark to the 1830's area.  Some of the ladies in the group were wearing nice shoes. : (   We had to use our cell phones as flashlights to try to avoid the mud pits.
After arriving we were told that we would be eating at the different time periods and it would be like a full meal. Yea right.  The first course were two COLD burned tamales.  They were unedible.

The second stop was the Prairie Home.  We had to stand in the cold because the previous group was running late.  The "delicious meal" was a COLD  partially cooked gummy biscuit and a paper bowl with just enough COLD stew to barely cover the bottom of the bowl and a small amount of watery COLD wassail.

Then we got on a wagon pulled by a suburban (how historically correct is that LOL) to go to the cowboy stop.  The entertainment (cowboy poetry was unbelievably bad) and the quality food matched the bad poetry.  It was some sort of cobbler that was so tart that it was unedible.  I guess that they didn't have sugar back then.

Sounds good, right?  Well it wasn't.  I hope that the Health Department cracks down on them serving food at improper temperatures.  I am glad that I didn't get food poisoning.   It was a huge rip-off.  The Fort Bend Museum should be ashamed of cheating the unsuspecting public.

They charge $40 for an adult and $35 for a child.
