Geico Beware When Geico Calls Offering Cheaper Insurance. It Is SCAM To Get You Off Your Current Insurance For Their Much More Expensive Insurance Geico called me and offered cheap insurance after claiming to review my driving record. I left my old insurance company and exactly 3 weeks later (enough time for my old policy to be closed) they doubled my insurance Washington District of Columbia
Geico lies and cheats to get you to sign up with them. They have a scam going that will leave you with much higher insurance rates.
Geico called me claiming that stuff had recently come off my driving record so they could offer me much cheaper insurance. I asked for a quote and they offered me about 800 dollars for 6 months. I went ahead and signed up since this was much cheaper than what my current insurance company was offering.
Geico then waited just over 3 weeks, enough time for my old policy to be closed so I could not reopen it, and sent me a letter saying they were canceling my policy because they could not offer me that rate. When I called them they said they found additional information on my driving record and could only offer about $977 for 6 months. Because I had already canceled my other insurance, and the difference was about the same, I decided to stay for now.
About a week and a half later I called Geico to inquire about my bill. That was when I received a shock. Geico had automatically enrolled me into auto pay and had increase my insurance to 1500 for 6 months. They were planning on removing 2 months worth of insurance, at once, during the next billing cycle. All without informing me. When I asked why my rate went up by this much, they said they found additional information on my driving record. When I asked what additional information they listed the same things that the lady had mentioned during my initial quote of about $800.
When I called my old insurance company to get my old policy back I was told that they cannot reinstate my old policy because it has been closed for more than 15 days. Effectively Geico used a scam to get me to leave my old policy. The longer you stay with a company the cheaper your insurance gets based on your record with them. By tricking me into leaving my old company they forced me to get more expensive insurance which they can now compete for.
DO NOT believe the Geico commercials or pay them any mind if they call you offering cheaper insurance. It is scam!! They are not competitive at all and lie and cheat to get you to sign up or stay with them.
