Was contacted by e-mailed about being approved for a personal loan. Replied and someone from the company called me. We talked and everything seemed good. I've been looking g for a personal loan and was having trouble because of my credit reports. I was then sent a contract by them for me to look over and sign. They then told me that I needed to purchase insurance policy for the loan for $100. I had to go and buy a $100 iTunes card and call then back with the number. I was told that I was going to get the no eye back. Me not thinking did it. They informed me that my loan will be direct deposited in my debit card. Which is a prepaid one. After about 1 hour I received a call from Mr. Cooper stating that the state I live in SC was Charging a transfer fee for something which was$200. I had to go and buy another iTunes card for that amount. Being excited that I was final going to be able to catch up with my bills, went and bought it. After about 2 hours I called them and they informed me that they were getting an error 4 when trying to transfer the money. That is when I started looking into everything. I then called the Mike Johnson. He was the one who sent the loan contract. He was very rude. He kept telling me that I was going to get all the money back. The loan was for $1000 and I was supposed to get back $1350, $100 for the insurance, $200 for the transfer fee and $50 for commission for buying the insurance. I looked at the contract again and noticed, my loan was for $1000, term was 6 months, monthly payment was $166.00 at 8.99%. when I calculated everything I was only paying g back $996. That's when I finally realized what was going on.

It took you to actually calculating the payback amount that you figured something was wrong? So paying someone in iTunes Gift Cards didn't seem odd and apparently is a daily occurance for you?

This is not to be rude, or play any sort of "Armchair Quarterback". But you fell for a very common scam, and has been going on for decades in various forms. Asking for anything up front such as insurance or "good faith" payments  to guarantee a loan is ILLEGAL.

Now, you ask then why is it still going on? Because these scammers are very good about hiding themselves. The name they gave you is fake, the phone number is to a prepaid cell phone that was most likely paid for with a stolen credit card.  If they gave you a web site or e-mail it is a "free" site that anyone can get or again paid for with a stolen credit card. Oh and the biggest thing. They are not even in the US making it very difficult that even if you knew who they were to go after them.

The best thing you can do to proect yourself is to be smart. If ANYONE for ANY reason you do not personally know asks you to send them money either on a Gift Card, Pre-Paid card, MOney Order, Western Union for something like a loan, a "work at home" job, being a "secret shopper", winning a contest, cashing a check and having you send them the difference, or having a long lost relative you can guarantee that it is a SCAM and just walk away.
