In April of 2002 I contacted Gateway Computers via the internet and with phone followups to purchase a new computer system. I had informed the sales rep I did not know anything about CD Burners, DVD Burners except they make CD's and DVD's. She informed me my machine would burn and play both.

Great, it came and I set it up and for 6 months the cd burner thingy worked great, the computer worked great. Then I was able to obtain a mini DVD movie camera and made my first home movie with it. Trapsed upstairs the the handy computer, downloaded it and then tried to burn it to a blank DVD disk. Zingo, nothing, nada, no go.

I called the Gateway help desk and then was informed I needed an upgrade on a certain program, which I went ahead and got. Nada again!! After the 4th futile call to Gateway I was informed my machine indeed does NOT burn DVD's!!

After much discussion, some of which was not nice, I was told tough luck, the time element expired I swear to God, 15 secs prior, to check and inventory the equipment sent me for any missing or incorrect items. I said "how can I tell it's missing when I don't have a clue what I would have been looking for?" All I want was to ship back the inerror drive to be replaced by the proper DVD burner I was told I was buying!

I went up the ladder, one supervisor after another and to no avail. And ended up having to buy a Sony do it all burn everything but cigars burner that works wonderful. Except the Sony will not recognize the upgraded program Gateway had me buy as the first solution to this amazing string of nonsense.

In essence, the rep said I had what I needed, the machine came, I did not know until 6 months later when I tried to burn DVD's I was in left field without a glove owing to the fact I did not have much knowledge of DVD's at the time. I feel very cheated by Gateway whom I figured would live up to the error and correct it. WRONG! But they did want to sell me an extended warrenty everytime we spoke!

In June 2003 I purchased a Gateway 700XL dual monitor system. A very expensive and what I thought was top of the line system. In July 2004 on eof the FPD1830 18" flat panel monitors stopped working. I called Gateway and was told that since the system was out of warrenty I had no option but to buy another monitor. The only 'relief' they would offer was a 10% discount on another monitor, no service is offered. In September 2004 the second monitor stopped working! These are very expensive monitors. Also latter in September the sound card stopped working and had to be replaced. I maintain my systems with UPS and make sure the work area and case are kept dust free. I have purchased MANY Gateway systems in the past and have good support but this system is by far the worst system and support (or lack of)I have ever had!!! I also have a Gateway 500s purchased a number of years ago and have not had any problems with any components including the flat screen monitor that came with the system.
