I made the mistake of believing what hsn said about Gateway when they had a big special on computers in December. I bought the crap they were selling and on January 12, I bought a laptop, but I really wanted the desktop they were selling.

When they sold out on the show, I should have taken that as an omen and kept going, but like I said, I bought the crap hsn was selling about Gateway.

After buying the laptop online from hsn, I looked a few days later and they had the desktop I wanted so I bought that too. By the way, they were both on a flex pay, so I didn't have to put the whole amount down.

I called hsn and tried to cancel the laptop and was told that it was too late because they couldn't stop the processing when in fact they could have because the laptop wasn't anywhere near being sent out. So, I was told when it came to refuse it.

I went to my neighbor's house to pick it up and they had rushed all of the stuff there. Everything was so confusing because they sent so many boxes. So, I called hsn again, and asked if there was any special numbers on papers that I needed to send baic the computer and the rep said no, and gave me an address to send it to.

So, I sent it out by way of UPS from my job, got the tracking number so I could track it and it arrived at Gateway's warehouse on Jan. 02, 2004. Meanwhile the desktop I ordered had error messages coming up from the day I opened it which was on Christmas day. I called tech support three times and they really couldn't help me. So, I decided to send it back.

This time I called Gateway and complained about the computer and told them I wanted to send it back and the manager at the warehouse named James told me he would send me the return labels for the desktop. I also told him about the laptop that I sent back and gave him the tracking number and he said he would look for it.

Ever since then, I have emailed told check on the laptop and was told by various reps that it was in the warehouse, but there was nothing on record about a return. It gets better. I emailed Gateway and told them that I would seek help elsewhere if they didn't get back to me on the laptop.

Someone from hsn emails me and says that they don't have any record of the laptop being in the warehouse and for me to send proof, which I did. Her name Noemi L. from customer service in accounts. I've heard nothing from them. She gave me a fax number that was busy all the time, how convient!

So, I've been calling both Gateway and HSN because I didn't want anymore payments taken out of my bank account. And I was told that it would be pushed back. The desktop arrived at the warehouse on Jan. 16, 2004, I tracked it by the tracking numbers.

They told me it take from 10 to 15 days to get refund on the desktop and 7 to 10 days for the laptop. They've had the laptop since Jan. 02, 2004 and today is Feb. 3,2004. Everytime I call Gateway, they tell me that the laptop is there, but there's no record of a return being processed.

In the meantime, another rep from Gateway named Dina calls me about a week and half ago and tells me that I sent the laptop to the wrong warehouse and it was being sent to the one that handles returns in Little Rock, Ak. I asked when it was sent out and she claims it was on Jan. 9,2003. She said it would be 7 to 10 days before I receive a refund.

I called HSN back and explained that to them and was told that it would be passed on to a higher up to call me in seven days, like I'm going wait for that. She also told me that the date for the next payment to be taken out would be on Feb 14, 2004.

I check my account Monday Feb 2, 2004 and found out that she lied, it was taken out. Now Gateway tells me to call HSN and HSN tell me they haven't heard anything from Gateway.

Everytime I call either one of them, they give me the runaround. Both of those computers were on a unconditional money back guarantee. They have their mechandise and I don't have my money back.

I sick and tired of all of their lies. Now I'll have to shut down my bank account in order for them to stop taking money without my permission out of it.

I think that Gateway and HSN is trying to get away without giving the refund that they promise on national tv when they advertised that junk they sell. Oh, I forgot that the dvd doesn't work correctly either.

Possible solutions ..Gateway is possibly involved in illegal Internet Sales Practices

#2Consumer Suggestion

Thu, February 05, 2004

Gateway is possibly involved in illegal Internet Sales Practices I had a similar problem with Gateway in December 2003 it's posted on RipOff. So far this is what I've done. Keep copies of all Correspondence. you will need them if you do the following..all the following can be done on the internet. File a report with the BBB (beter business bureau) they will direct you to the office that will handle Gateway when you login. File a request with Television action line usually the FOX Channel. File a complaint with the Federa Trade Commision (www.ftc.gov) file a report with your State Commisioner of Consumer Affairs If you have a case the FTC and State Commisioner will get involved in my case they are both looking into fraud charges against Gateway. the more complaint the more likely they will do something.
