This location is the absolute worse Gamestop to exist! Time after time there has been complications in this particular store. This store racially profiles consumers. On December 28, 2019 I presented to the store with my son, to purchase a microphone for the Playstation 4 slim he purchased from the entity. Upon arrival, the staff member with the ponytail on the top of his head stared us down. The microphone was purchased. Then in an attempt to complete an alternate transaction inclusive of selling a Nintendo switch game, I was asked to present 2 forms of ID. First of all, I am a gamestop PRO rewards member and have been since 2011 and have spent thousands of dollars in this establishment. Second, a valid drivers license was presented. What more is needed?

The young man stated that "even a library card would work, just something with your name on it." or a piece of mail. The statement alone makes no sense as a library card does not have a printed name and a piece of mail could be anything hand written and is not official documentation of identity validity. I told the employee, I have never been asked that at any alternate Gamestop and he noted, that is is ONLY Reynoldsburg location that requires the 2 forms of ID in cash transactions due to PAWN SHOP LAWS. This employee needs re-trained or terminated.

I felt targeted and profiled for the color of my son's skin, who is black. I am biracial and there was no reason to ask to 2 formas of ID; while the white customer attempting a cash transaction at an alternte register was not asked for 2 forms of ID. I am highly disappointed and will be filing further complaints. Why not use my powerup card for verification with my ID given I just used a gift reward certificate on the 45,000 points available? This Gamestop is the not recommended and the staff is in dire need of cultural diversity training. I would like a copy of the policy the employee spoke of in which only this location enforces mailed to me as soon as possible.

This store racially profiles consumers.  No, clearly it doesn't based on your own narrative.  If they racially determined you were not a worthy customer, you would have been asked to leave the store without purchasing a thing.  If they were racist, they don't need your business.  If they were willing to do business with you and conducted that business in a manner consistent with the store's policy, then there was no profiling.  As someone already told you, it's time to get that chip off your shoulder.

Then in an attempt to complete an alternate transaction inclusive of selling a Nintendo switch game, I was asked to present 2 forms of ID.  How is the merchant supposed to know the items you were returning weren't stolen?  In pawn shops, small electronic stuff like a Nintendo, can easily be stolen, and returned to a merchant to be used as barter to purchase something else - which is exactly what you did.  More of these sorts of shops are now having to comply with the same laws as Pawn Shops do when someone wants to sell their assets for small amounts of cash, or barter for something else.  Next time, try going to a pawn shop and pawn something you own for cash.  You will have to provide lots of ID.

that is is ONLY Reynoldsburg location that requires the 2 forms of ID in cash transactions due to PAWN SHOP LAWS. This employee needs re-trained or terminated.  Sounds like he did his job exactly as he should.  Perhaps you could use a little retraining?

I am biracial and there was no reason to ask to 2 formas of ID; while the white customer attempting a cash transaction at an alternte register was not asked for 2 forms of ID.  First, nobody cares what you are.  Second, the transaction the white customer was attempting did not include the use of returned merchandise as barter for the purchase of the microphone, based on your narrative.  Had you simply paid for the entire transaction in cash, without the return of the other item, the issue of ID would not have happened.

I would like a copy of the policy the employee spoke of in which only this location enforces mailed to me as soon as possible.  LOL that's pretty funny.  Are you really expecting a website to send you anything??  OK, let me help you out.  Gamestops are franchise-owned.  The store itself would have policies to follow that are consistent with local statutes, like Pawn Shop laws.  Go into the store, and speak with a manager about the policies.  I am sure the policies are there, but as someone who knows about Pawn Shop Laws, these are very likely to be legit policies the stores must follow.  There is a high likelihood the store was either informed by local law enforcement that it must comply these laws, or busted because they weren't complying with the law.

Your complaint is obviously without merit and anyone reading it, should ignore it...

I was not trying to use a credit card! Therefore, go lay down somewhere. Your rebuttal makes no sense as you evidently did not read the initial complaint. Take your advice, get a life and recognize reading comprehension is essential prior to submitting an opinion. Your rebuttal is baseless.

The employee is trying to protect his job by asking for two forms of ID before you are allowed to use a credit card (I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that if you were using cash you would not be asked for ID.)  This is common.  It doesn't matter in the slightest if "nobody ever asked you for ID before," this employee is doing the right thing by asking for it.  He doesn't know who you are (despite the fact that you apparently live at these stores) or if that credit card is actually yours. And if you walk out of the store with your purchase and then call the credit card company claiming the card was stolen, the merchant takes a loss.

As for the "racial profiling" bit, get that d**n chip off your shoulder.  The idea that you want an employee "terminated" or forced to go through "diversity training" because you got all indignant is laughable.  Your demand for documentation concerning store policy is equally laughable- if you don't like the ID policy, take your business someplace else,  stop acting like some federal crime has been committed against you.  If you want to use a credit card, carry ID with you.  It's that simple.  But I suspect you'd rather stay up on that cross than look at it from the merchant's point of view, right?
