Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
On Friday, June 9th, we went to Fred Martin Superstore in Barberton to see about trading in our '99 Honda Odyssey for a new or used minivan.

We spent plenty of time with a salesman, took an '06 Chrysler Town and Country for a test drive, and came back inside to see if we could work a deal. Several hours later, they rang the bell and congratulated us on our new lease.

We then met with the finance guy and signed all the papers. We were not told about any of the papers we were signing, because it was 10:00 at night and the finance guy wanted to go home.

After we finished, they handed us the keys and let us drive away.

On Thursday, June 16th, we got a phone call that there was a problem. We went back in and apparently, Chrysler didn't want to give us the lease. They wanted their van back and they wanted to give us back our Honda. We didn't understand, and every person we talked to was extremely rude. At one point, the General Manager told us that they "sell 500 cars a month. 6 or 7 of those come back. You just happen to be one of those 6 or 7, and it doesn't hurt me a bit."

The General Manager and I then had a discussion about customer service. His idea is that you can't make everyone happy, so why even try? He's not concerned about bad word of mouth, only because "they sell 500 cars a month."

They then refused to work with us at all. Wouldn't try to put us in another vehicle, would not admit that they were wrong in giving us the van and then taking it back 6 days later.

After half an hour of waiting, they finally brought our old van around with no license plates on it! Apparently, the salesman we had said that we wouldn't need them anymore and folded them up and threw them away - in front of my husband. He then tried to blame my husband for them getting thrown away, because he didn't want to get into trouble.

They sent us home with dealer plates on our Honda. What happens next, I have no idea. All I know is I will not be going back to Fred Martin, and I will be spreading the word like wildfire that they don't care about their customers. They only care about themselves and the 500 cars they sell a month.

Whatever you do, please do not purchase or lease a vehicle from Fred Martin. If they're willing to screw over a husband and wife with 3 young children and one more on the way, they'll screw over anyone.

Pay your bills

Angela, I have a theory. My guess is you don't pay your bills, therefore the lender would lease you a vehicle. You should have been happy they at least tried to get you a new car, they went out on a limb and sent a vehicle off the lot and hadn't received payment for it. I'm sure for the time you had their car they were trying to get you approved, but couldn't because of you situation. Unfortunately, for everyone involved, they had to take the car back.

They Did You a BIG Favor, Angela!

Angela: Do you know what you'd be getting into with a CAR FLEASE? They did you a FANTASIC FAVOR!!! 1. You're insurance most likely would be higher. 2. You would be stuck with all kinds of official sounding but BOGUS fees. 3. You would be required to pay mileage charges computed yearly to MAXIMIZE the money taken from you. 4. You would be required to PAY FOR SERVICE for a car OWNED BY SOMEONE ELSE! 5. You would be hit with exagerated wear and tear charges and other BOGUS closing fees. Angela...you are a very, very lucky woman. They didn't want you to see the contract. You being a woman are an easy mark for the con-men. There is much more profit in a CAR FLEASE, as such, all the stops are pulled out to get someone to sign for such a scheme. Remember Angela, ITS A FLEASE and Y-O-U are the one who gets sheared!!!

Your License Tags

#9Consumer Suggestion

Sat, June 17, 2006

Immediately call your local Police and report your tags "Stolen"''Then go to your local Licensing Bureau for a new set of tags, usualy there's a nominal fee, a dollar or two for the replacements. Then it's the problem of the dealership, the police will take care of them for their "Theft" of your tags.
