I hired this attorney to represent me in a case. I was told by his secretary that the first half hour was a free consultation. At our first meeting, I spent a total of 45 minutes with the attorney who said he could take my case and that he would need $500. 00 up front for "a couple of hours of lawyering."

He then told me I needed to pay him an additional $45.00 for the $45 minutes that I had just spent with him. When I told him what his secretary had told me, he said she didn't know what she was talking about. So I succumbed as I needed an attorney. So I charged $545.00 on my credit card.

I was to gather information and call back to set up the next appointment. I wasn't able to attend the next meeting, so I sent my mother. He met with her for 15 minutes and basically said he would need another $5,000 up front before he could help me further. When she asked him what he had done for me for the $545.00 he didn't reply.

He just said he wouldn't continue without further money. I have since emailed, mailed and called his office to request an itemization of his charges. It has now been a month. I am now ready to take him to small claims court. He has clearly ripped me off, knowing how hard it would be for me to go against him.

Oldest Trick in the book

Report this pr@@K to the Bar association, this is the oldest trick in the book that this scum bag lawyers play. They make out to you you have a strong case then sucker you in normaly for $2000 start up which is the magic number in your case $500 plus the initial $45 visit which you should never of paid. Once they have a chunk of your money they hit you for another larger lump the great part for the Lawyer is if you say no you loose the initial lump that he has not worked for and which is always just the right amount to hold you, going any where else you will have to start out again with another initial retainer same routine. If you say OK thats where the fun begins they will chew through your $5000 quicker than Bic Mac and ask for another $5000 or I will have to drop the case. Now you have spent $5500 What do you do? Its become an investment with lead weights. Its a legalized rip off that you cannot say no to just like when you are loosing at the Black Jack table you keep throwing in hoping for a return but you just get deeper and deeper into the Common Sheme or Plan. At the end of the day when the lawyer has pushed you to what he thinks is your limit and you have paid him the last black mailed amount with obvious sweat and reluctance he walks into court for 5 mins takes any old deal offered with the assurance if you dont accept I will need another $5000 to take this to trial. Your left standing there afterwards saying I could have bloody done that myself. Report this pri@k to the Bar and if you are in California make something up that he promised you, if he is out right ripping you off do the same back and charge back your credit card
