My jaw dropped when I got a very official looking document. I use caps just as the document used them.
On the envelope:
IMPORTANT OPEN IMMEDIATELY
INFORMATION ENCLOSED: Fictitious Name Act F.S. 865.09 et. seq
and
TIME SENSITIVE DOCUMENT.
They were asking for a $125 with a due date.
Because I already ran my publication prior to filing for fictious name, and at a cost of 50% less, I knew this couldn't be correct.
And sure enough, reading within the text of the docement it says
FLORIDA ASSUMED NAME SERVICES IS NOT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY AND DOES NOT HAVE THE CONTRACT WITH ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE.
They are clearly fishing for anyone that will simply see the official looking document and pay.
