On July 20, 2002 I received a call from a telemarketer from First Premier Bank telling me that I was approved for an unsecured visa or mastercard and that they needed some personal information to process my application. The telemarketer sounded extremely nice and seem willing to answer any question I may have. Since I need to repair my credit, I gave them my information...verifying spelling of my name, birth date, ss#, address, mother' maiden name,etc. I was given this customer service # 1-888-604-9426 if I had any further questions. As the process went on, the telemarketer tried to sell me a membership of some sort for $9.95 a month billed to my new visa/mc on top of a $9.00 monthly participation fee for having an account with them. Oh, and my enrollment fee was $149.00 and an annual fee of $119.00... WOW! Was I getting ripped off!!! Well by now I have declined this card and the guy who at the beginning was so pleasant, turned ugly. He kept trying to sell me the membership with the card saying that it offered free this and that...including a pager of cell phone that would wake me up in the morning... I said, "No thanks! I've got an alarm clock." He said, "Fine, Forget You Then!" and hung up on me. Well, now I have a problem, these people had my personal information and I don't know if I will receive a card from them since the telemarketer hung up on me. Even more frightening is that someone else at First Premier can use my information without my knowledge. If I do receive a card from First Premier I will close the account before I have to pay any fees. But after reading all of the horror stories on this site, I am afraid that I will be losing money to these people for trying to close an account. All I can say now is that I will be more carefull giving out my information and that this is just one of life's lessons. Kay Charleston, West Virginia
